Barefoot Truth frontman Will Evans has thrown his hat in the ring and a coin in the fountain in the hopes of becoming the next big thing in music. And, based on the strength of the 10-tracks on his independently released solo debut Wishin' Well - he just might have succeeded.
Evans discovered music at a young age, starting with the drums and later gravitating to the guitar. For the past decade, Evans was in the roots rock band Barefoot Truth. In Barefoot Truth he was the primary songwriter, singer and drummer. During his tenure, the group released four full length albums and several EPs. Their most recent record Carry Us On landed at #10 on the iTunes rock chart.
Since the band decided to take a break - Will building on this expertise and experience - embarked on his own project. The new CD reflects an array of influences such as Bernhoft, Lauren Hill and especially John Mayer. Evans' songs have elements of folk, hip-hop, pop and rock combined with captivating hooks.
Will writes visual lyrics woven into vibrant arrangements that are straightforward yet still have a lot of extra players and sounds melding into the melodies. The CD opens with "Being Young". The song jumps at you with its bouncy rhythm and bright expressions of youth.
"Wishin' Well" is the wistful title track that starts with a ska vibe and rises on programmed drum beats, echoed refrains and a compelling chorus of voices. Evans sings with a smooth confidence that draws you in to listen closely to his lyric laden songs - in this case wrapped up in a modern funk fusion of rhythm and beats.
"Life Is A Photograph" is a perfect snapshot of the modern alternative acoustic approach and stylings that run rampant on this release and find Will developing an image similar to contemporaries like Needtobreathe and Ray Lamontagne. With a nice nylon lead and a revealing climax that paints a pretty picture in a little over four minutes time.
"Playing with Fire" is fiery and playful - another one of our favorites on this record. As a whole, Wishin' Well - like a warm sunny day - is pure pleasure with its catchy hooks and clean production. Evans will be on tour in 2013 in support of the CD and we wish him well!

Bio
Will discovered his love of music and singing at an early age. At family gatherings guitars were always unveiled by his uncles and cousins and the music often carried on late into the evenings. By building a makeshift drum set out of pots and pans Will found his place in the rhythm section. It wasn’t until High school that he would actually take a seat behind a real drum set. It was also around this time that he first picked up his fathers beloved guitar.
Asked about his start in music, Will explains ” After freshmen year of high school my dad taught me a few chords on his old 1973 martin D 28 acoustic guitar (sort of like the red Ryder BB guns of acoustic guitars) I was hooked. I taught myself the rest, and I’ve held that guitar hostage ever since.”
Will Evans has spent the last decade as the primary song writer, and drummer/ front man of the roots rock outfit Barefoot Truth. Four full length albums and several EP’s were recorded with Barefoot Truth, including their latest release “Carry Us On” which debuted at #10 on the Itunes rock chart. Recently Barefoot Truth has decided to take an extended hiatus, which has led Will to a new chapter in his musical journey. Will’s solo project gives him an empty canvas to explore and create a new sound to share with anyone willing to lend an ear. Influences are drawn from a diverse selection of musical genres including hip hop, pop and folk rock artists such as John Butler, Lauren Hill, John Mayer, Bernhoft, and Ray Lamontagne to name a few.
