Kool & the Gang have released their new track “Sexy (Where’d You Get Yours),” the funk-soul legends’ first new single in nearly a decade.
“Sexy” signifies a modernization of Ronald and Robert “Kool” Bell and company’s unmistakable sound, right down to the dance floor-tailored bass grooves and the perfectly timed horns. The single comes from Kool & the Gang’s upcoming studio LP, their first album of original music since 2007’s Still Kool; the Christmas album Kool for the Holidays arrived in 2013.
Kool & the Gang will debut their new single live alongside classics “Jungle Boogie,” “Get Down on It” and “Celebration” as part of a Today show medley on Thursday. Download “Sexy” over at iTunes and other digital retailers starting July 15th. - Rolling Stones
I wrote a chord progression and developed it enough to make it sound cool, and they dug it, and wrote a vocal over it. That became the main hook of the song. The project was done remotely at this point. After writing more music and developing the idea further it needed verses and more vocal content --which is when I met Walt Anderson, who's currently one of the lead vocalists of Kool & The Gang. It was right before quarantine, and we did a session at my house. -

A self taught and motivated musical genius began his trek into the musical world from the front pew of his family's church. He was born in Coatesville, PA, the youngest son born to musical parents. As a young child he would sit and watch his father's fingers as they exploded across the keyboard. Walt, the youngest of a preacher discovered that he had been endowed with special musical abilities.
Wanting to be like his role model father, Walt studied his father's techniques. Daily he would listen to the radio while sitting next to the keyboard and teach himself to play what he was hearing. This imitation was the tool that led to his master of the keyboard. The church's drummer also caught young Walt's attention and it wasn't long before Walt had taught himself to play the drums. Once the concepts of play had been drummed into his mind, he developed his own unique style.
His musical talent was further developed as he focused on the successful development of Brinks, a hip hop band formed by Walt and his brother. The two effectively produced and distributed their own cd. The overwhelming response by the public to this CD confirmed in his mind that making music was his mission in life. The baptist church became a platform for Walt to develop all of his natural musical abilities as he became music director for various churches and groups in his area.
Leaving college after his second semester to appear on MTV's Making the Band II he finished as one of the 10 finalist. Following this accomplishment, Walt embarked on a solo music career and released an EP titled The Compilation, a musical collection that reflects all of Walt's varied influences.
He has opened for Alicia Keys, Justin Timberlake, Freddie Jackson, Ashanti, Wyclef Jean, Carl Thomas, Camron, Twista, John Legend, Musiq, Jeremih, Miguel, and Marsha Ambrosius to name a few. He has written placements with Asian pop star Se7en, pop group Big Bang, pop group Good Girl and r&b artist Joe. Walt has also written numerous songs for the legendary band Kool and the Gang as well as featuring as lead vocalist on those records.
Additionally, Walt has appeared on various TV shows, headlined and opened tours with various artists and, rounding out his appearances, he's left his mark on radio listeners national and internationally. Walt is currently touring the world with Kool & the Gang where he’s a lead vocalist and performs their latest Billboard charting single "Sexy (Where'd you get yours)" which he wrote and co produced.
Walt's humble spirit and musical genius are sure to propel him to the status of one of the musical greats.
