"Midwest/Mid-Atlantic Madness #2"

Lastly this month we have VELOCICOPTER. They are playing a few days after I get back to Chicago and I’m pretty stoked to head down to that show on the 28th. There’s something about this sort of punk goes grunge thing that I love and think is going to translate really well live. It’s dirty sounding and raw but you can still dance to it. Ticks all my boxes. - PUNKTASTIC

"Pals by Velocicopter"

Easily one of Chicago’s most energetic acts, both live and in their studio records, Velocicopter has put out their best material to date. I could just end this review right there but you might as well read along as I gush about these 8 songs for a few paragraphs....... - Midwest Action

"Empty Exchange: Velocicopter"

Walking down the winding halls of an Avondale warehouse, I am being led by the sound of someone wailing on their drum set. Past the snack machines and the arcade and the questionable pyrotechnic equipment, the sound gets louder as I turn my final corner, open a door, and voilá: VELOCICOPTER. I had the privilege to crash their practice, which was, I must say, the most productive, teamwork-centered, smiley band practice I’ve had the opportunity to photograph. Just a week away from releasing their latest album, VELOCICOPTER has hit their stride. With a sound that is becoming more electrifying and maturely structured with each day, it’s easy to see what all the smiling is about. Throughout the practice we talked all things hot dogs, taught Matt what Burger Time was, discovered some major realizations about their new found success in collaborative songwriting, and left sometime for some good, old fashioned arts and crafts.

If a band that cranks out the good vibes while melting your face with their shredtastic set is what you’re looking for, than look no further. I can honestly say that missing VELOCICOPTER next week at the Notes & Bolts 2nd Anniversary Party will be the dumbest thing you do all year. We’re only four months in people – don’t blow it already. - Empty Bottle

"Velocicopter ‘Taurus’"

Chicago four piece Velocicopter play relentless rock and roll. The dual vocals of Meghan MacDuff and David DuCasse add a pop sensibility with balls-out rollocking beats keeping it nice ‘n’ nasty. Currently planning a split with another Chicago based band Rodeo on that much missed format of music cassette, they are keeping things very DIY, planning on handing out tapes on the street and at gigs. Keep an eye on these guys!

"LISTEN: Velocicopter – “Drag”"

There’s something quite special about local hard rockers Velocicopter. This quartet does not fool around on their brutal new single “Drag.”

Velocicopter are certain to continue drawing comparisons to Queens of the Stone Age on “Drag” due to the band’s lightning fast rhythms, dizzying guitar riffs and whipsmart musicianship.

Guitarist Meghan MacDuff’s smoky vocals emerge as the biggest star on the track. MacDuff slowly builds tension with gritty harmonies until it is time to unleash all out holwing fury on her unsuspecting listener.

Velocicopter’s formidable punk rock agility is a lot like a horse shooting out the gate before gun shot start because before you know it the race is already underway and the prize is all theirs. - LoudLoopPress

"LISTEN: Velocicopter – “Common Bones”"

In addition to being my new favorite dinosaur-vehicle hybrid, Velocicopter are a uber-rad quartet currently rocking clubs all around Chicago.

The band pull absolutely no punches on their debut, VCOP, an energetic exercise in rumbling riffs, rowdy basslines and punky beats. It’s the type of rock ‘n’ roll that would make Scott Lucas or a pre-hairloss Billy Corgan proud.

Recently, the band finally put their sweet tune-age on the inter-webs in the form of two tunes, “Common Bones” and “Taurus.”

Both equally rock, but let’s talk “Common Bones.” The track kicks off and never lets up with pummeling guitars as singers slash axe players David DuCasse and Meghan MacDuff trading gritty vocal duties. The roundabout bridge then leads to explosive solos anchored by bassist Brett Klein and drummer Mathew Haywood’s rhytmic assault.

Listen to “Common Bones” at the top left, and download it for free at Velocicopter’s Bandcamp page.
