Valerie Tyson was born in Hollywood, Florida. As a child, there were many influences, such as: Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warrick, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, and Gladys Knight, all these artists remain, to this day, a major influence in her life and singing style.
