Bio
Originally hailing from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Tracie Potochnik now makes her home in Providence, Rhode Island. With influences ranging from the straightforward down-home wit of Loretta Lynn to the intricate character-driven narratives of Richard Shindell, she is known for blending simple arrangements with sophisticated storytelling and memorable melodies. Tracie's lyrics are often told from the perspective a narrator much unlike herself, and in her delicately crafted narratives she inhabits a range of complex and sometimes dark characters. She has also been commended for her rich vocal delivery, spanning from quiet vulnerability to a passionate belt.
Her debut album, The Dream, was recorded on analog equipment at Dirt Floor Studio in Chester, Connecticut. Produced by Eric Lichter, The Dream is a collection of ordinary and extraordinary stories with a folk/Americana feel, with elements of classic country and 70s folk-rock. With instrumentation including banjo, organ, mandolin, and pedal steel, The Dream also features Brown Bird's MorganEve Swain on fiddle. She previously released a 5-song EP entitled Homespun Recordings, Volume 1.
Tracie has recently joined forces with fellow singer-songwriter Steve Allain to form the duo Cardboard Ox. More information and music can be found online at www.cardboardoxmusic.com.
Tracie brings three chords, the truth, and occasionally a mandolin to her shows. She once killed a man in Reno, but not just to watch him die. Bastard had it coming.
