She dresses like a chanteuse in form-fitting gowns, sometimes with gloves and sings like an angel descending from high. He stands, guitar in hand, while the sound system delivers pre-recorded loops and drums tracks.
They are Althea Bodine and Rick DiBello -- the husband-and-wife duo, also known as Torn Curtain. And they perform bewitching, beguiling music that's as atmospheric as a David Lynch movie, only not as creepy. They radically convert standards, taking them into a spellbinding, trip-hop realm that's deliciously adult, classy, hip. DiBello also writes originals that are equally transfixing.
Burning with creativity, Bodine and DiBello are far too busy -- she's a dancer, he's a musician -- and Roadhouse sound guy -- for Torn Curtain to play that often. That's a shame, because they can transport you out of the hum-drum into a place where there's nothing to be hum about. - Erie Times News Best Of
Rick DiBello and Alethea Bodine got so many requests for "Time" - the Tom Waits' tune featured in the Roadhouse Theatre's recent production of "Vieux Carre" - that they got a smart idea. Under the name Torn Curtain, they cut a 3-song CD which includes a gorgeous, sublime version of that song, plus a cover of "Funny Valentine" and a spell-casting DiBello original, the spectral "Get Closer." - Erie Times News

Torn Curtain plays DiBello originals and radically reworks standards, such as "My Funny Valentine" and "Round Midnight." They give 'em trip-hop beats and languid grooves, like Britain's Portishead. - Erie Times News
Singer Alethea Bodine, one of the strongest front persons in Erie, absolutely captivated the audience with her lush, soulful voice, her theatrical and trance like movements gliding from the comical to the tragic, and grace and elegance. She not only commands the audience’s attention, but also beguiles them; no more like captures them for a trippy journey to both happy and dark places. Try to take your eyes off her while they perform! - PlayErie.com

This is one of the rare bands that it seems no matter what song they are playing (covers range from the Pretenders to ABC-yes the 80’s band-to jazz standards) it sounds like Torn Curtain are not far from the almighty Portishead (amen), Torn Curtain has mastered the art of meandering, dreamy, electronic pop. - PlayErie.com
If you missed Torn Curtain this time, shame on you, cause it could be months before you see them again, or if you haven’t experienced them before, think about your favorite David Lynch film, now put a house band in it and voila, there’s Torn Curtain.

"Tracy & Hepburn, Burns & Allen, Astaire & Rodgers - great couples of the entertainment world. Erie's answer? DiBello & Bodine. Between them, the two cover all of the performing arts, from dance to theatre and music, both vocal and instrumental. DiBello & Bodine continue to stretch the limits of performance with their abstractions in music and movement."
