"The Real Laww"

His favorite part of performing is interacting with the audience and getting them involved, he said. He also enjoys doing mixed-genre shows. He has shared stages with artists from world music, punk, jazz and other styles. “It feels like the music I’m doing can interweave with all those genres,” he said. “It’s accepted by people, which is really awesome. People can like the music, [even though] they came there to hear something different.”

"Skating event will raise money for Durham Rescue Mission"

DURHAM – The Durham Rescue Mission and domestic violence victims will benefit from a special roller skating event set for the end of the month.

The Skate Away The Hate fundraiser will be held starting at 10 p.m. March 30 at Wheels Skate Park, 715 N. Hoover Road.

The goal is to raise $4,000 to help domestic violence victims at the Durham Rescue Mission, according to Durham resident Jay Lawrence, who is organizing the event.

“I want to give something back,” Lawrence, an entertainer and U.S. Marine who served back-to-back tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, said.

Lawrence said one reason for organizing the event is that his business partner and his partner’s mother were victims of domestic violence. - Herald Sun

"Skate Away the Hate"

Spring has officially sprung and on March 30th there’s a perfect way to shake those winter doldrums. Up and coming Durham rappers Toon and The Real Laww have put together what they describe as a rap/skate extravaganza, happening at Wheels Fun Park, with the proceeds benefiting victims of domestic violence through the Durham Rescue Mission.

This one-two combo of beats, rhymes and good times have produced music together for years and interestingly enough, it all began with the raiding of a refrigerator. Bound by a heretofore unknown a mutual friend, Laww discovered Toon in his kitchen perusing the perishables in his icebox! What could have immediately become beef changed direction when Toon noticed Laww’s microphones and recording equipment- conversation ensued and musical friendship spawned.

Though both artists had been working on music individually, there was an evident mutual benefit from the collaboration. Laww, a Marine reservist and a veteran of both Iraq and Afghanistan... - Clarion Content

"First Listen: The Real Laww"

Okay, so we know its a few days past halloween, but some of us are still celebrating. Okay not really, but this Zombie video from rapper The Real Laww ft. Toon is so good, its scary. Oh and we promise the song is pretty killer too. He’s been in the rapping game for a while, and pursuing music since the 9th grade, he says. It wasn’t always that his music career was on the forefront of his daily life. He produced anywhere from 40-45 original songs but he never made them into an album. The Real Laww was then deployed to Iraq where he had to put his music career on hold.

After returning from a successful deployment in Iraq, The Real Laww released the second solo project: A Mix Tape Vol. 2 where songs like “Sweatin” and “Future” were played in clubs in nearby cities like Atlanta. His songs even got radio time and various internet radio stations. Recently, A Mix Tape Vol. 2 received 3.5 out of 4 stars in I AM ENTERTAINMENT (IAE) MAGAZINE. Now just returning from a successful tour in Afghanistan, The Real Laww is currently working on 2 solo projects: “A Mix Tape Vol. 3? and “The Law Cometh” projected to be released early 2012.

—About the directors —

Director SALEEMRashamwala is a creative force to be reckoned with. Check out more of his work at WWW.KIDETHNIC.COM. This video was actually Assistant director, MANDY PADGETT’S first video. Not bad. Not bad at-tall.

GET SCHOOLED.

Here is a little background on rapper THE REAL LAWW,

As a rapper, song writer, producer and Marine, The Real Laww was born to entertain. The Real Laww has lived everywhere form New Jersey, Kentucky to North Carolina and has even excelled in the ranks as a member of the United States Marines. We salute that anyday. - TheCampusStyle.com - Cintra McGauley

"The Real Laww's Zombie Rap Video"

I'm not much of a music fan, and I don't follow rap music, but I know what I like. And I like The Real Laww's "Professional Hater" (feat. Toon). The rhymes from this North Carolina rapper are as infectious as the zombies that appear in the video. - ZedWordBlog.com - ZedWord

"Durham hip-hop zombie onslaught"

It used to be that you'd meet someone, they'd bite you, you'd develop a taste for flesh and pillage the surrounding town looking for someone nice to eat. Apparently, that won't do anymore.

There's now a furious new wave of Durham-born zombies walking amongst us and rapping as they go. The source of this revolutionary strain, if a new music video is to be believed, is a hot new track from local rapper and producers The Real Laww and Toon, dubbed "Professional Hater (Remix)."

The Real Laww (or J. Lawrence) is a Durham-based veteran of the war in Afghanistan; Toon is a graduate of the Durham School of the Arts. They were documented in the pursuit of BRAINS! by director Saleem Reshamwala (aka Kid Ethnic).

No word on whether anyone survived the onslaught. - IndyWeek.com - Ashley Melzer

"The Real Laww - "Professional Hater (Remix) ft. Toon" : The Halloween Cut [Video]"

What would Halloween be without a trippy zombie rap video to get you ready for tonight’s festivities? The Real Laww and Toon team up for a solid track featuring original production and dope flow. The video is from Kid Ethnic, the same guy who brought you the video for “Hulk Smash” by Toon. Have a happy Halloween and get weird tonight. - BDBeats.com - DaGhoul

"The Real L@w"

Born in Trenton, NJ and currently residing in Durham, NC, rapper, singer, producer and song writer The Real L@w has always incorporated music in his life. From working at McDonalds to excelling in the Marines, L@w has always managed to keep one thing constant in his life: Hip-Hop. Dating back to when he was just a teenager in the 9th grade battling other Emcees and performing at small shows L@w got an early start in the game. In 2003 he began working with Thunda Pound (Centerpoint) out of Raleigh, NC and from there he truly began to master his craft. Before being shipped out to Iraq in 2009 L@w released his first solo project: A Mix Tape Volume 1. The mixtape was a success locally but didn’t quite make a buzz on a larger scale. It wasn’t until his return from Iraq in 2010 that he began to make National noise with “A Mix Tape Volume 2.” With big things on the horizon there’s no stopping L@w from making a name for himself because let’s face it, everybody has to obey the L@w right? - InsideTheUnderground.com

"A Mix Tape Vol. 2"

"If you like West Coast Hip-Hop, you’ll love L@w. A very creative artist, L@w calls himself a “One Hit 1der” because “I make Wonder Music, 1 hit at a time.” Interesting and very unique to himself, L@w cannot be compared to any of today’s heavily commercialized Hip-Hop stars. In fact, he despises them for keeping the genre stagnant (so do I). In his song “Future”, L@w strikes a definite chord with those who want to see Hip-Hop music get back to being about creativity, uniqueness, and as he puts it “the games been stankin’ so it’s time to change it; I brought you to the future to see real entertainment.” That line is just one of many that showcase L@w’s ire for the lack of growth in today’s music. Oh, and the beat is great!" - IAE Magazine - Senseitional

You Know The Name/ End The Beginning (Double EP) - 2013

Bio

Toon & The Real Laww, a hip-hop duo from Durham, recently released a Double EP entitled You Know The Name/End The Beginning that features tracks from Toon and The Real Laww respectively. Though the two are billed as a duo, they thrive in their own aural niches. The two create their own beats (mostly), and have carved out their own separate hubs that are capable of stand alone excellence, but together they mesh brilliantly and seamlessly.

The duo is comprised of Professor Toon and The Real Laww, two rappers that vary in approach but convey similar thematic properties in their music. While Toon & The Real Laww are capable of busting out some impressive lyrical wordplay, delivering witty punchlines with pinpoint precision, the true focal point of these MCs is the personality on display. Toon delves deep into his motivation for making it in the rap game and his humble, albeit sometimes chaotic beginnings. Lawws military background is an ever-looming presence on his raps, his production style lays a booming foundation for his powerful vocal presence and makes for a powerful listening experience. The two may not always collaborate on their tracks, but when they do the chemistry is palpable and beckons the listener to foray deeper into their psyches.

Toon & The Real Laww have shared the stage with the likes of Meek Mill, Machine Gun Kelly, GZA, Killer Mike, Gym Class Heroes, Lloyd, Pac Div, Big Sean, Mike Posner, Ben Folds 5, Kooley High and Mike Stud.

Toon & The Real Laww are also available with FULL live band!
