Very ranty sparse punk preachyness cut with blunt language and humor/sarcasm. Topical, with parodies of newer songs subverted to underground propaganda aimed against contemporary issues. Most of this is recorded live. Some of the songs play off of shocking humor, which sort of detracts from the songs that have a higher purpose (but then, I like the sicker stuff.) Mostly, all you get is a guitar and vocalist, but eventually with a little patience he is joined by drums, harmonica, bass, keys, etc. (during the studio tracks.) Pretty smart sounding stuff for the intellectually stimulated, but nothing for the virtuosos.

You may have heard our first MySpace Maestro of the Week from "way back when," even if you don't know who he is. Angry Panda, a.k.a. Tim Meano, was a member of Springfield band The Walnut Street Gang during its heyday in the late '90s. Now a solo artist, Angry Panda plays clever, uproariously funny, uptempo acoustic punk. The song "As Punk as Johnny Cash" is a perfect example.

Angry Panda
What would you, a semi-employed Missouri musician, do if you were asked to play a single stop on the Vans Warped Tour—in Boise, Idaho. Why, pack up the car and drive to Napoleon Dynamite’s home state, of course. This summer, Angry Panda, (aka Timmy Miano) did just this. The 26-year-old with a BA in German from Missouri State sings music that is an appropriately random blend of punk, country and folk, each song telling a somewhat rantish story (listen to “SUV vs. MiniVan”). But it’s still very musical and, most importantly, interesting. The fact that Miano’s an air guitar virtuoso only cemented his place on this list.
