"Gypsy Bravado Through the Rabbit Hole"

October 7th, 2011 marks a night where 4 gentlemen officially step out of a Delorian to release their debut album “Through the Rabbit Hole”. On their venture through space and time The Gypsy Bravado have brought with them traces of classic rock greats such as Led Zeppelin, Rush, Pink Floyd, and The Who. The album is opened with the hard hitting track “Swagger” with lyrics that profess they are sick of giving love away and are taking it back from the grasp of an evil woman. This tune blends perfectly classic rock with blues lyrics to convey the feeling that they are “running out of patience what more can I say?” Following up that track the story continues with “Heartbreak Woman” diving further into the apparent evil nature of the female species this track is layered with amazing, ambient, and Zeppelin- like lead guitar masterfully put down by none other than Mr. Shawn Burgandy. As we go further through the rabbit hole we go right into “John Dillinger” which puts Gypsy Bravado into a category of their own with dirty guitar distortion blended in perfect syncopation with a thick nasty bass line delivered by Jeff Ducas. A perfect depiction of a chase this track speeds up midway through giving the feeling of running for your life in the backwoods of Mississippi with bloodhounds on your trail. Lastly Gypsy Bravado completes our journey through the rabbit whole with “Dreams (Through the Rabbit Hole)”. Reverberating guitars, fuzzy distortion, organs, and passionate vocals on the verge of screaming seem to take you back to 1968 in the front row of Woodstock. In this particular setting The Who have teamed up with Led Zeppelin to meet you on the other side of the hole and welcome you on your trippy return “staring at you through broken eyes”. The Gypsy Bravado has managed to recreate a great era of music in just 5 songs which is definitely a trip worth taking once you are on the other side. - The Urban Advocate

"Concert review: Gypsy Bravado, the Backsliders and more rock the Moon"

"For some time I've noticed a psychedelic revival going on in these parts. North Texas has long been a breeding ground for singer-songwriter folk musicians, and the natural evolutionary (or intelligently designed, depending on your belief system) progression from folk is toward psychedelic rock. If you were to map out a phylogenetic tree of hippie music, you'd go from Pete Seeger to Bob Dylan the acoustic artist, to Dylan the electric artist, to the 13th Floor Elevators, the Grateful Dead and so on. The Gypsy Bravado fit right into that tradition." - Steve Watkins, DFW.com - dfw.com

"The Gypsy Bravado Prepare for Debut Release"

"All five songs [on the upcoming EP] ooze with the authenticity of a live performance, which isn't surprising given the group's propensity towards delivering electrifying live shows." - MyDentonMusic.com

"MyDentonMusic.com E-Article April 3, 2009 Review of Haileys Show"

MyDentonMusic

I came to watch an opener named "The Gypsy Bravado" tonight at Hailey's. An unashamed group of four that love their rebel roots of rock. At least 60 people were crowded around the stage, which I have rarely seen for an opening act.

The band took the darkened stage and didn't even address the crowd knowing exactly what experience they came for. They began to gradually build into a concentrated controlled frenzy in the dark of the room. The second I heard the waves of sound and the howling vocals I knew Rock'N'Roll wasn't even close to being dead.

The music was heart pounding and dynamic echoing with their inspirations from the days of Led Zeppelin, The Doors and many others in that time period. However, save yourself the "throwback" or "classic rock" comparisons they know their roots, but believe me when I say this was anything but recycled.

The set didn't let up from beginning to end and was all to short a performance, climaxing with "The End" a song comprised of three movements that are filled with psychedelic torrents, calming waves and ghostly soul. The Gypsy Bravado are going places. Be sure to catch their show, sorry their experience, ASAP. - MyDentonMusic.com

Bio

Forming in early 2008, The Gypsy Bravado originally began as a concept of a new form of modern rock. The band wanted to take the influence of early rock'n'roll greats and add a progressive psychedelic edge, creating a modern sound that stayed true to the footsteps of predecessors but paved the way for something new.

Through the heavy gigging and rock and roll bumps on the road, the group has settled as a four piece with Michael Shawn on guitar and vocals, Brandon Kerth on bass, Mo Myles Oelkers on keys and vocals, and Louis Anderson on drums. As The Gypsy Bravado showcases their second studio EP, they continue to grind on and grind out new and diverse music.

Our music is powerful, riff-driven and explosive. We strive to achieve our goal to be noted as a great live rock n roll band.

Main influences include Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Pink Floyd, The Dead Weather, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Mars Volta and The White Stripes

We've played with talented acts from the DFW and Austin scenes, including: The Effinays, The Criminal Kind, RTB2, The Virgin Wolves, Clone Mike, North of Autumn, The Roaming Soldiers, Ducado Vega, Foe Destroyer, The Hanna Barbarians, Pale Horse, The Neckties, The Kul, NERDFACE, Dead Beat Poetry, and The Red 100's.

RIP Jeff Dacus, forever a part of this band
