Highlights:
- 2012 saw the band playing an official SXSW showcase with Tommy Stinson of The Replacements and touring down and back to Austin with Golden Boy, featuring Elliot Smith's guitar player, Shon Sullivan.
- The band has embarked on 6th national tours and have performed at notable venues around the country including The Middle East Downstairs (Boston), Public Assembly (NYC), Satellite (LA), Subterranean (Chicago), The Basement (Nashville), The World Cafe Live (Philly) etc.
- The Grownup Noise has played numerous college shows including performances at MIT, Bates College, Brandeis University, Sacred Heart, and Fitchburg State, to name a few...
- We have performed with Thao w/ the get down stay down (kill rock stars), Tommy Stinson of The Replacements, Rock Plaza Central (Yep Roc), Amanda Palmer (Dresden Dolls), Kay Hanley (Letters to Cleo), Brother(uk), The Guggenheim Grotto, Other Lives (tbd records).
Bio:
From self-titled 2007 debut up through 2011s acclaimed, rousing This Time with Feeling, Bostons The Grownup Noise have bridged the gap between Americana and indie-pop. During that half-decade, the 5 piece ensembles performed with everyone from Kill Rock Stars sensations Thao with the Get Down Stay Down to acclaimed Canadian barnstormers Rock Plaza Central and folk troubadours the Guggenheim Grotto.
After releasing This Time with Feeling, which was mixed and produced by studio wizard Scott Solter (Spoon, Okkervil River, St. Vincent, John Vanderslice), the band spent most of 11 crossing the U.S. on tour culminating in a string of 2012 SXSW dates highlighted by an opening slot for Tommy Stinson of the Replacements. They are currently hard at work on their third album which is slated to be mixed by Sam Kassirer (Josh Ritter, Langhorn Slim, David Wax Museum).
All five members of The Grownup Noise (Paul Hansen - vocals, guitar, keys; Adam Sankowski - bass, keys, vocals; Rachel Arnold - cello, vocals; and Aine Fujioka - drums, vocals), Dave Middleton (Pedal Steel, Keys) are multi-instrumentalists and equal contributors to Feelings umbrella of styles.
Music from their debut was featured prominently during a seasonal climax of MTVs The Real World, and The Tucson Weekly proclaimed that The Grownup Noise are a band that revels in the beauty of a simple melody delivered with minimal enhancement for maximum emotional effect.
