THE AUTUMN HOLLOW BAND
Love Letters and Ransom Notes 11-song CD
The Autumn Hollow Band’s most recent release, Love Letters and Ransom Notes, packs a wallop that runs from beginning to end. This CD, released a month ago to a full house at the Rosebud, brings the best of Americana/folk rock music to the forefront, with tunes to get your feet moving and others that make you sit back and take stock of what’s come before. The album’s momentum never wavers, and not once did a song grace my ears that I didn’t want to hear again. Or three times, or four. F**k it, just hit repeat and let this be the soundtrack of my day! The music is smooth, easy to take in, and creates a kind of homey atmosphere that makes your problems fade into the background. Lead singer/ guitarist Brendan Murphy takes to the mic for songs like “Thinking,” “I’ll Be Your Fool,” and my personal favorite, “First It Rains.” He’s backed both instrumentally and vocally by the versatile quartet of Mike Burke (electric guitar, accordion), Noel Coakley (pedal steel, guitar, banjo ukulele), Scott Marucci (electric bass, upright bass, electric guitar) and Todd Sampson (drums, percussion). The wide array of sounds blends seamlessly, a testament to the band’s dedication. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m heading back to the CD player to start this album over again. And again. And again. Bio
Autumn Hollow is an authentic and explosive Boston based roots rock band formed in the fall of 2007. They have just completed the journey of completing their eponymous second full-length album. These ten songs leave everything on the table, showcasing the remarkable range of the band from song-writing creativity to performance and production.
Produced by Will Dailey (Universal, CBS Records), the album was recorded in the upper floor of an upholstery factory in the industrial section of Waltham, MA. The floors creaked, police sirens wailed, and the temperatures rose as team Autumn Hollow recorded late into the summer night. If you listen closely you can hear the sweat dripping off the instruments and gear. The album was mixed in the lush rolling hills of Northampton, MA at SpirtHouse Recording Studio by Danny Bernini (NRBQ, Martin Sexton, Steve Earle).
Autumn Hollow has played over one hundred shows in some of the best regional venues including: The Paradise Rock Club, The Iron Horse Music Hall, the Higher Ground, The Regent Theater, Club Passim. They have shared the stage with national acts, including The Handsome Family, The Wooden Sky, Brown Bird, Kingsley Flood, and Dead Winter Carpenters.
In addition to the enthusiastic support of their long-time fans, Autumn Hollow continues to receive critical praise. Red Line Roots writes the following about Orlando Brown -- the first single off the new record -- It makes me want to be in the crowd at these guys live gig so I can sing along, raise my drink in the air and cheers to the whole audience. Musikkbloggen notes, Like a little cross between Whiskey Town and Uncle Tupelo as these guys caught me right away. Max Bowen of the Noise says, The albums momentum never wavers, and not once did a song grace my ears that I didnt want to hear again. Or three times, or four. F**k it, just hit repeat and let this be the soundtrack of my day!. And Daykamp music declares, The Autumn Hollow is a band that sounds like The Band. They have one foot in rock, one in folk and one in country. They are a three legged monster of Americana.
