That reel-to-reel sound, two-inch tape, songs that hang with you, somebody said that "wrap you up," written and played and practiced in a dingy rehearsal space, next to a garage with an old motorbike hanging from the roof, with a funky drummer and bassist, empathetic guitar, a tasteful pedal steel soul brother and a songwriter who considers "Willy the Wandering Gypsy and Me" to be about the pinnacle of roots music, right up there with the Wailers and the MC5, and Levon.
