Local Band to Organize a Fundraiser in Midland
Published on January 9th, 2013 by admin in Events
The Sandra Good Band in Midland will once again host a fundraiser in order to collect money and help the Georgian Bay General Hospital.

The event will take place on January 26th at the Midland Legion. The doors will be open at 8:00 p.m. and the band will perform at 9:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the Legion and at Johnstone’s Musicland.

A prize table will be organized as well as 50/50 draws and a buffet with drinks and snacks.

This is the second year the Sandra Good Band is taking part in a fundraiser to help the hospital. $3,000 were raised last year at the event for the Buy-a-bed project. This year, the goal is a bit more ambitious – to raise $5,000 for a new stretcher which is currently needed in the emergency department.

Everyone is invited to take part in the event. - Wasaga Life.com

"Local Group Has Released New Album"

Local group have released a new album

Sandra Hosgood has a voice for rock ‘n’ roll and now she has the band to match it.

After 17 months in the studio, they have their first album.

“I just wanted to get a band together and get it out there,” Hosgood said of her music. “I wish I had done it years ago.”

Better late than never.

The Sandra Good Band (SGB), a four-piece group of veteran musicians, have gathered a following from Muskoka to Toronto, and across Simcoe County, since they formed two years ago.

In the past year, even though all have day jobs, they have performed more than 100 gigs, including venues such as the Mod Club, El Mocambo, and Rock Pile in Toronto, opened for Dr. Hook at the Sound Empire in Barrie, and performed on the main stage at Kempenfest.

Along the way, they’ve garnered a Twitter following of 70,000 people.

A CD launch party last month for the band’s first album, ‘Lonely at the Top’ drew a sell-out crowd of more than 150 at the Foxx Lounge.

The album features 10 original songs written by Hosgood and band member Barry Foreshew (guitars and vocals).

Hosgood met Foreshew at one of her earlier solo shows and they started writing songs together. He also subbed in for Hosgood when she needed a guitar player and, when she formed SGB, she asked him to be part of it.

Foreshew, who was born in Sudbury, has made music his life’s work, between teaching guitar and playing in bands that opened for Blushing Brides and David Wilcox among others. He’s studied classical guitar and has collection of vintage guitars. He currently lives in Barrie where he continues to teach music, when he’s not being a session musician or performing with SGB.

Hosgood met Greg Lightle (drums, vocals) through Foreshew. The two men had played together in a couple of previous bands.

Lightle, who is originally from Nova Scotia, has played in bands since he was 16 years old, including Eddy and the Stringrays and a stint with Shania Twain on her Up tour. He grew up in Ottawa, moved to Collingwood and now lives in Barrie to be closer to work in Toronto where he is in horticultural sales.

Pete Olmstead (bass) was born in Owen Sound and after working in Toronto for a time, moved to Barrie to raise his children. He’s always enjoyed music and found a niche playing bass guitar. He can also sing and harmonize.

While he played in a previous band with Lightle, his career went in a different direction. He went to film school and 15 years ago started Big Fish Video Productions in Barrie where he makes a variety of training videos for companies, television commercials and music videos.

Hosgood was born in Toronto and lives in Midland where she is a crisis counsellor at Rosewood Women’s Shelter.

This is her first band and her second album; the first was a solo album. The lyrics for her songs come from her own experiences and range from pop to rock and ballads. The Devil in Me is considered to be the heaviest song on the album. Her favourite subject matter is freedom.

“I love writing (and) I’ve always been into poetry,” said Hosgood, and considers music to be her therapy.

She started writing songs at the age of 13. Growing up in Milton, she was also into music theatre and studied it at Sheridan College.

This is her first band and her second album; the first record was a solo project called Distant Echoes which was released in 2011. Its single, Hey You, is included on the new album.

The new album, Lonely at the Top, is available through www.cdbaby.com.

Catchy Tunes with a Classic Sound: The Sandra Good Band

Good music can help you forget about all the trouble and stress in life, if only for an hour or two. The problem is that today’s popular artist are writing watered-down music, and it’s hard to find that kind of escape. Luckily for you, I do a lot of searching around the web to find bands and artists, that many of you have probably never heard of, to not only help you get that dose of euphoria your ears crave, but to introduce you to some fresh tunes as well. Fans of classic rock and pop are in for a treat with the artist being featured today: The Sandra Good Band .

Coming to you from Ontario, this is the best music I’ve heard from our neighbors up north since Rush hit the scene back in the day. This group combines a ferocious rock sound, with the catchiness of most pop music. This band will have you head-banging, dancing and singing in no time. If this were 1977, they would already be huge and playing along-side great acts such as Heart, Fleetwood Mac and Led Zeppelin. Unfortunately we live in a time where so many great artist go unnoticed, but this is one that deserves the attention.

They released their debut album Lonely at the Top in 2014 , and there are some great tunes on it. “Hard To Tell You” was the first song I heard by SGB, and it got me hooked. With an old school guitar riff leading the way, Hosgood’s vocals come soaring in and sweep you away. What really sold me on this song, though, were the guitar solos. Everyone loves a good ballad, right? I know I do, and “Time” is a pretty darn good one about dealing with difficult relationships and going through hard times. With a steady beat, strong melody and some emotional guitar playing, this song is hard not to like.

The Sandra Good Band covers the Jefferson Airplane classic 'White Rabbit'
“Devil In Me” has a ton of attitude and is easily the heaviest song by the band. The verses have a clean guitar riff, but you can hear the aggression building up to the chorus with the help of the angry vocals. The drums will have you pounding your hands and feet along with them and I’m sure you’ll be singing by the end of the track.

Sandra Hosgood has an absolutely amazing voice: just edgy enough for the rocking tunes, and elegant enough for the softer tracks. Her style reminds me a lot of Ann Wilson from Heart with the way she pours her life and emotion into the lyrics. Guitarist Barry Foreshew is the perfect compliment to Hosgood with his style of playing. Driven by a blues-based hard rocking sound, Foreshew has the skills to be considered one of the greats one day. The riffs will hook you in, and the solos will have you playing air guitar just like you did when you heard Jimmy Page for the first time.

Greg Lightle is a very accomplished drummer that adds a ton of experience to the band. After playing with many bands, including Shania Twain for a brief time on her “Up” tour, he joined forces with Hosgood and Foreshew in the Sandra Good Band. He may not be the flashiest player you’ve ever heard, but he knows when to play, and when not to play. That’s a problem too many drummers have, they always want to hit every piece of their kit on each song, Lightle can show you how good he his without all the fills. Keeping the songs tight and the band in check is bassist Pete Olmstead. If you put an instrument in this man’s hands, he can probably play it. You can expect to hear plenty of grooves to go along to the catchy melodies of this outfit’s music with his playing.

I’m sure you’ve already opened a new tab on your computer or phone and started jamming to the Sandra Good Band by now, but if you haven’t, now’s the time. With a healthy combination of rock and pop, this a group that is hard not to get hooked on. Check them out on Facebook , Reverbnation and follow them on Twitter and Instagram for all the newest happenings with the band. Make sure to buy a copy of their debut album, Lonely at the Top while you’re at it. - Shutter 16 Magazine

"Snap magazine"

WOW! What a Rockin show put on by Stay Tuned Enterprises at the Midland Cultural Centre! Opening with the Sandra Good Band featuring songs off her latest album “It’s Lonely at the Top” and followed by "Hells Bells", an AC/DC tribute band.
It was standing room only in the packed Rotary Hall at the M.C.C. as the high energy all ages show had the young and not so young dancing to their favorite AC/DC tunes, Sandra Good Band cover songs and new Sandra Good Band favourites.
If you love AC/DC then you'll love Hells Bells! Both bands “Rock” and if you get the opportunity to see either band; snapd recommends taking in a show.

Sandra Hosgood (Lead Vocals) Born in the big city of Toronto but raised as a small town girl in Milton Ontario, Sandra Hosgood started writing songs at the tender age of 13, influenced by all around her, and driven by the support of her parents.  She studied Music Theatre at Sheridan College and has has been active in Theatre for most of her life.  Sandra didn't take long to realize she had a passion for singing and song writing, growing up listening to the sounds of Janis Joplin, Heart and Fleetwood Mac.  Strong roots with a positive perspective is what separates Sandra from all else.  Her latest album Distant Echoes was released in 2011 with her featured single and music video Hey You. Sandra is now the lead singer for the Sandra Good Band and excited to be working with such seasoned players.
Eddie Savage (Lead Guitar, Vocals) Born in Alliston and raised in Angus Ontario, Eddie Savage ,an only child, was raised on the music likings of artists such as; Dwight Yoakam, Bob Seger, Max Webster, Van Halen and Randy Travis. Eddie first picked up a guitar at the age of 13, and was playing in the local bars with bands by 15 years old. With such influential guitarists such as Kim Mitchell, Billy Gibbons and Pete Anderson, Eddie has a great understanding and ear for rhythm and lead guitar. Heavily influenced by fast cars, fast women, and Molson Beer, he has always believed that theatrics and stage presence also play a big part when performing live, to ensure the audience is entertained onstage and backstage. In the past Savage has opened for many bands such as; Toronto, Lee
Aaron, Sebastian Bach and Goddo. Over the years Eddie has a built a good persona onstage and off, has created a unique style in playing and looks forward to a great future with The Sandra Good Band.
Greg Lightle (Drums, Vocals) Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Greg "The Beat" Lightle began honing his musical chops playing drums in Ottawa Ontario with the White Water Band, Nebula, and then on to be a member of Eddy and the Stingrays (still playing). After the Stingrays Greg moved on to Alien, Windsor, The Smokin' Caterpillars, and finally The Maria Hawkins Band. (still playing) In 2001 he left the Nations Capital and came to Toronto: the Rock & Roll Capital of Canada. After playing a stint with Shania Twain on her Up tour he set up his drum kit north of the city behind Concession Seven, Shady O'Grady and pounded out the blues with Jawbone & the Rhythm Daredevils. The bright lights and concert halls brought Greg back down to Toronto again. He joined Opal Blue and then Morning Fame before heading north again to keep the beat with Double or Nothing. Gregs ability as a solid, steady rhythm player who always hits the mark has garnered him a reputation in both the recording studio and on the concert stage. Today Greg The Beat Lightle is a member of the Sandra Good Band.
Kevin Latimer (Bass Guitar, Vocals) Born in Toronto and moved to Tottenham at the age of 8, Kevin is a local guy that has strong roots in the area. He started playing guitar at the age of 12 and moved to the bass guitar by the age of 15. He has been playing bass guitar for over 30 years with a wide range of genres including covers for Blues, Country and 50's/60's material. He is proficient and totally comfortable playing a 4, 5, or 6 string bass. His true passion is 80's hair rock, heavy metal and classic rock where his influences include Stu Hamm, Geddy Lee from Rush and John Entwistle from The Who. In 2013 Kevin was the first to set a record for longest marathon playing bass guitar, completing 40 hours and receiving the Guiness World Record Certificate to prove it. Kevin provides a solid bass rhythm and as a vocalist possesses a remarkable style which pronounces itself in the music he plays. His many years of experience on stage and in the studio combined with a vibrant personality produce an energetic professionalism that is a defintie asset. Some recent projects include Metal Head (Tribute act of 10 different bands), rock band Teknical Difficulties and the metal band 17th Hour. Kevin's years of experience are a welcome addition to SGB
