“Bandleader/flutist/vocalist of the FLUTE PARTY BAND, Chip Shelton always was involved in music. He however graduated Howard U. School of Dentistry, and Columbia U. School of Orthodontics as back-up.
Shelton also studied jazz at NYC’s Manhattan School of Music; classical flute with Julius Baker (aka the Dean of American Flutists); and, musicianship with Dr. Helen Hobbs Jordan.
He went on to perform Town Hall, Lincoln Center and many major NYC venues with both the Jazzmobile and Jazz Interactions Workshop- Orchestras, where he was mentored by jazz masters Jimmy Heath, Frank Foster, Hubert Laws, Yusef Lateef, Eddie Daniels and many more..."

The NY JAZZ FLUTET is a unique, in-demand, cooperative group of flutists who have defined a new sound. Individually leaders of their own ensembles, the FLUTET has embraced Jazz, Latin, World Beat, and Classical Musics as versatile entities.
Described as highly professional and elegant, this core group of 4 multi-flutists plus percussionist (who also occasionally plays flute) provides a lush, musical mixture that is well suited for upscale venues and events.
The repertoire includes Jazz greats such as Clifford Brown, Dizzy Gillespie, and Duke Ellington as well as originals by the members.

The FLUTE PARTY BAND spreads energetic, jazzy-fun wherever it appears. The sonic palate includes an infectious 'move-your-body' rhythm section; melodious flutes ranging from the tiny piccolo to the massive sub-contrabass flute; interspersed with tasty lyrics by male and female vocalist-members.
Event-specific Celebratory, Feel-Good Jazz, Latin, World Beat, and/or Classical Music are readily available. Highly professional and elegant, the (contractible or expandable) ensemble provides an energetic and lush musical mixture well suited for upscale venues and events.
Featuring nearly the entire flute family, from Piccolo to Sub-contrabass Flute, the ensemble expands to include up to 8 flutists; a 5 piece rhythm section (piano, bass, guitar, percussion, drums); additional vocalist(s); and dancer(s). A much smaller version is available as required.
The repertoire includes Feel-Good originals by Shelton and ensemble members; and groove-based pieces by jazz composers such as Clifford Brown, Horace Silver, Duke Ellington, etc.; also available are classical compositions by Bach, Mozart, Tchaikovsky and more.
