Bio
The Lionfish is a Fairfield, Connecticut-based indie blues- rock band. Its original band
members met while studying at Fairfield University in 2012. All members studied music
in some capacity at Fairfield University, in addition to their extracurricular musical
pursuits. Coming from various backgrounds and musical influences, each member brings
a unique style to playing. At its core, The Lionfish digs deep into the roots of American
blues and rock 'n' roll. The band embodies soul, talent, and a creative energy that is hard
to find!
The Lionfish released their debut album, Jonesin’ For You, in 2016. The album is
available for purchase and streaming. They have since been hard at work finishing their
sophomore effort You Won’t Keep Me Down, due for a September 2018 release. Their
second album finds the band maturing in their lyrics, arrangements, and musicianship,
while still maintaining the undeniable energy and fun of the first album.
Robby Schwartz wrote the majority of the songs during a year of volunteer service in
Quito, Ecuador. The remainder were written as part of his compositional studies in his
pursuit of a Masters from SUNY Purchase. His compositional influences range from
Bruce Springsteen to Paul Simon, Pat Metheny, and Pete Townshend, and his lyrical
themes are reflective of his belief that love is the most important thing.
Current members are Robby Schwartz (keyboards, vocals, trombone), Chris Finelli
(guitar, bass, trumpet, vocals), Mark Schwartz (guitar, accordion, bass, vocals), and Dan
Horstmann (drums, percussion, vocals). Featured guest vocalist are long-time friends of
the band Hattie Briggs and Samantha Mazzeo. The Lionfish occasionally play live with a
horn section featuring Tim Rhone (trombone), Matt Finelli (alto saxophone), Tim
Vyskocil (trumpet), and Amanda Ocasio (alto, tenor saxophones).
With You Won’t Keep Me Down, we hope audiences join The Lionfish’s musical journey
and share in our love for rock and roll.
