As we further crawl out of the holidays and further into the cold wastelands of winter, it’s easy to feel like the sharp winds and shivers will never end. In reality, winter is a crawl, but personally, I’ll take it over the scorching summer. Something about the desolation and stripped trees is preferable to burning up. And speaking of desolation, let’s talk about The Human Race is Filth (or THRIF).

Hailing from York, PA, the sludgy grinders bring hence an excellent EP to brave the cold months. Walking a tight rope between heinous blasts and thick, pissed dredging, THRIF encapsulates their name well. Spewing disgust and mayhem that sounds like a fitting soundtrack to the extermination of humanity.

“Fence Walker” kicks things off with a blast that slows and drops into a build and gets back to blasting. The unpolished, roughness of the recording sets the mood just right: grim and gray. “Fence Walker” is just the taste. A grinder you’d expect, and it does its job well. However, the fuzzy nature of this EP, and how heavy it stays, make it a real crusher.

“Uncivilized Pigs” is the four-minute follow-up that solidifies the album’s murk. A slow, sludgy beat works its way under the skin but doesn’t pick up too quickly. It takes almost two-minutes for the track to start really kicking up some dust. And even then, pissed as the piece is, it sticks to a sludgier trudge. York, Pennsylvania based sludgy crust/grind group THE HUMAN RACE IS FILTH (THRIF) are releasing their new vicious EP, Echo Chambers, today, and we’re stoked to give you the early listen of the full behemoth below!
Throughout the songs, the group tackles political, social, religious, economic, and even personal subjects. THRIF opens the Echo Chambers with “Nations Pipe Bomb,” reflecting the dark truth of the foundation of America. As the EP moves forwards, they oppose the corporations’ dirty scheme of monetizing capital gain over political and social causes. And later, they bring up the Americans’ inability to understand the importance of separation of church and state. THRIF concludes the EP with “Shit States USA,” lambasting the US political system in general.

The band was conjured by longtime friends and bandmates Kasey and Paul, who have been playing and releasing tons of music together with their other bands: Bittered, Police State, Mans Plague, and Split/Cross.

THRIF’s debut EP, Human Exposed, which came in December 2017, already marked the duo’s seventh release together in a span of two years. Producing another EP, Liberate, in 2018, they played a slew of shows over the east coast of the USA and Canada.

THRIF profoundly offers lethal overdoses of traumatizing discordant riffs, rage-fueled harsh vocals, and disintegrating rapid drumming. Whether the tempo chooses the slow-moving, thick sludgy path or fast grinding route, the destructive atmosphere of their music keeps regurgitating. Their nihilistic pulverizing tones have received accolades from various heavy music outlets, including Decibel Magazine, Metal Injection, Invisible Oranges, and Toilet ov Hell.

The EP Echo Chambers is the first release of THRIF as a trio (the drummer Brett Rebman joined the rank as the third member). From their name alone, The Human Race is Filth‘s anger at the world is obvious. The grind duo hails from southern Pennsylvania, and on their debut EP, Human Exposed, they take aim at every figure they feel is making the world worse.

Clocking in at a lean five tracks, Human Exposed blends grind, sludge and crust into a bitter cocktail before injecting it with hatred and anger.

“The Human Exposed EP represents and exposes the scum known as our leaders,” The Human Race is Filth tell Decibel. “It’s a campaign for the poverty stricken, which is most everyone not in the league of the rich and political realms. Leadership we have is draining people of living and raping the world of all its resources. RIF – The Human Race is Filth is a duo from York, Pennsylvania, infusing filthiest elements of sludge, doom, crust, d-beat and grind into their parlous form of music. Both members Kasey and Paul have been releasing a slew of materials and playing tons of shows with their other bands Bittered, Police State and Mans Plague for the last few years.
