"As Randell Young proved so effectively during the show Friday, the electric guitar is never put to greater use than when wielded by a masterful blues player." - Orange County Register
"Randell Young's band had a tight, cosmopolitan sound." - Los Angeles Times
Not many artists have ever tried to cover Layla much less interpret and/or improve it. Young and company set out to create a more modern, rhythmic, R&B version of Layla that could be performed live by just four pieces… provided that three of them are also great singers. And, on those terms, they have succeeded beautifully… and then some.
To put that into perspective, consider these comments by Eric Clapton, 'Layla is a difficult song to perform live. It’s [especially] difficult to do as a quartet because there are parts where you have to play and sing completely opposing lines which is almost impossible to do.' - Planet Singer
"Just as every great guitarist has performed the blues with a distinctive style, so has Young taken creative strides to cut his own turf." - Orange County Register
“You know how you hear a track without a guitar and you kind of fill it in? Stevie Ray Vaughn would have played it one way. Albert King would play another way and Albert Collins would play it yet another way. I generally hear it the way Clapton would play it.” - Los Angeles Times

Bio
British Rocker Eric Clapton, an
18-time Grammy winner and the only three-time inductee into the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame, emulated American Rhythm and Blues to become the most
commercially successful guitarist of all time. He has toured and recorded with
many notable bands including: The Yardbirds, John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers,
Cream, Blind Faith, Delaney and Bonnie and Friends, and Derek and The Dominos.
His solo recordings have sold over 280 million records. His live performances,
supported by Nathan East on bass and Steve Gadd on drums, continue to sell out
worldwide.
Now comes The Dominos, authentic American R&B players, with their
retrospective on the music of Eric Clapton… and the only Clapton tribute with a
guitar player/vocalist who can actually do justice to the Eric Clapton
catalogue.
Randell Young has toured and recorded with numerous artists of note including: Canned Heat, Poncho Sanchez, Max Bennett, Alphonse Mouzon, Nicolette Larson, Tony Guerrero, Billy Mitchell, Rob Mullins, Harvey “Harmonica Fats” Blackston, Jeff “Skunk” Baxter (of Steely Dan), Nesbert “Stix” Hooper (of The Jazz Crusaders), Jerald and Julie Harris (of Slapbak), Margot Chapman (of The Starland Vocal Band) and Rusty Cox (of The Dazz Band).
