Bio
With a list of influences ranging from the
sway-inducing steel pan and calypso of her West Indian heritage to Mariah
Carey, Helen Baylor, Lauryn Hill, Alanis Morissette and UK Garage,
there isn't much music Syx Williams is unfamiliar with. Growing up in
California, Georgia and London allowed Syx to meet people from all walks of
life. As an artist, the variety Williams has experienced comes together to
create the reminiscent, relatable quality that characterizes her uniquesound.
Her voice is most often described as "smooth
soul" lightly touched by funk and pop, infused with a jazzy vibe.
Sonically, Syx knows where she wants to go, effortlessly crafting daring vocal
arrangements that pleasantly surprise - what she calls "the bed a song lies on."
"[I] deal with matters of the heart...honest,
vulnerable; imperfect but real." Her lyrics, well written with the
listener in mind, are designed to evoke a response ("in order to finish
the race, you've got to start/might as well start
here/say no to the doubt that whispers in your ear").
Syx Williams wants listeners to confidently pursue
their dreams while growing in faith and love. Syx is no stranger to walking
tall, standing gracefully at an even "Syx" feet before counting the
inches added by her high heels.
Having shared the stage with Grammy award winning
Jill Scott and Grammy hopeful Mali Music, Syx Williams is ready to share her
music and her heart with the world. She is working on her debut EP to be
released in the near future.
