"The new album, Heart Shaped Leaves, is an emotional and heartfelt journey with a band that clearly wants to take listeners down a sonic rabbit hole. Theatrical, sorrowful, vivid, enchanting. These are some of the words that come to mind when losing myself in the band’s music." - Evan Phillips 2014
"The album weaves a rich and brooding tapestry, occasionally rolling up enough to let in a few flickers of light" - Alaska Daily News (ADN) 2014
They have a sound that is a delightful combination of rock n’ roll and Eastern European folk. They are made for hip swaying and moonshine swigging. Also, they have a cello. There are few things I love more than a rock cellist." - Daniella Cortez 2012
"The Sugar Strings carry a dynamic and energetic presence to any stage, effectively bringing together fans of both the Xtratuff and Chuck Taylor camps."
"'Harmonic Toast' is an oddball blend of gypsy folk and shit-stomping alt-country that offers something for every listener...[their debut album] provides a lyrical road trip, which gives it a feeling of inclusiveness and timelessness. Truth be told, it’s a damn solid record, especially suited for drinking with friends or taking a sunny road trip." - Jeri Kopet 2012
"The Sugar Strings have taken folk music’s populism and lack of sophistication and dressed it in that one dry-clean only shirt in the back of the closet." - Matt Sullivan

Bio
A soul-shaking, infinitely charming band from the far north.
Powerful, funky and alt-folky, the Super Saturated Sugar Strings have a very nostalgic, yet contemporary sound; rich with vocal harmonies, string melodies, and an element of carnival sideshow. Their gypsy-country vibe has won the group high honors and has stirred a fervent congregation of dedicated fans.
Based in Anchorage, Alaska, the group formed in 2011 and includes Kat Moore on vocals, piano, keyboard, and percussion; Carlyle Watt on vocals, guitar, and percussion; Theresa Watt on cello; Miriah Phelps on violin; Logan Bean on trumpet; Kevin Worrell on bass.
Anchorage-based producer Evan Phillips (Monolith Agency) who produced the band’s 2014 sophomore release Heart-Shaped Leaves, called the album “theatrical, sorrowful, vivid and enchanting.” The band’s 2012 release, Harmonic Toast, was described by the Anchorage Press “an oddball blend of gypsy folk and shit-stomping alt-country that offers something for every listener."
