“Sand & Stone,” the follow up single to singer/songwriter Steve Northeast’s # 1 hit, “You’re The One,” may be the one to hit the top again for the Australian born/New York City resident. The single is definitely moving up the charts and impressively with a 21 point jump to #46 on FMQB’s Top 200.
And that’s not the only chart “Sand & Stone” is moving on these days. According to the prominent music industry trade publication New Music Weekly, Northeast’s single is # 7 on their Hot AC Indie Chart and # 14 on their Hot AC Main, while hitting # 19 on the Top40 Indie list as well. The super competitive Hot 100 (a compilation of all genres) shows “Sand & Stone at # 32 above 2012 American Idol winner Phillip Phillips and former Idol contestant Daughtry.
“Impressive airplay,” stated Masika Swain, Associate Editor at New Music Weekly. “Summer is a competitive time of year at radio and ‘Sand & Stone’ is impressive with the radio spins across the nation. It is steadily moving up the charts to the top.”
Gary Hendrix, head of the Independent Music Network agrees that “Sand & Stone” is an great second single from Steve Northeast. “The song is sitting at # 6 this week on our Mainstream Top 30 chart and we are featuring him on our syndicated radio show. After ‘You’re The One,’ Steve has gathered quite a following of fans and they were not disappointed with his choice of second single, ‘Sand & Stone.’ I predict there is more to come from this talented artist.”

n true “make it here, make it anywhere” fashion, Aussie singer/songwriter Steve Northeast relocated to New York City in 2002. Honing his craft and pursuing musical stardom in NYC venues, he first gained prominence with the release of his debut album Inside. Recently, Northeast and company released their anticipated follow-up Another Day, a 10-track dynamo of “raw and powerful” songs that serve as testament to the band’s evolutionary path to songwriting and their sheer musicality.
Album opener “You’re the One” is radio-friendly, vocally-driven pop goodness much in the vein of Goo Goo Dolls meet David Gray. Deep, emotive lyrics lay nicely over effects-laden guitar fills and a solid rhythm section backer. I would put this in the running for the first album single. Title track “Another Day” features fuzz guitar riff work complementing the raspy vocal delivery of more of Northeast’s love song lyrical matter. “Open Up” sounds reminiscent of a vintage Simple Minds song. The thumping bass line ekes through the constant acoustic melody, heavy electric strum fills and the accompaniment of backing vocals. Rounding out Another Day is the agro tempo of “Find Your Feet.” Indie rock sensibility in the verses walks hand in hand with a chorus that sounds a tad punkish in delivery. Guitar-laden progressions stand with the vocals in an amalgam of pure rock.
A bit dark in delivery but thematically hopeful within the context of the lyrics, Another Day is a respectable second outing. The arrangement is solid, the post-production work ample but not so much to sound contrived or to hamper the available talent at the hands of the group. Perhaps most surprising, these guys make a lot of music for a three-man outfit. This is proof that they are capable of playing to their strengths, making the tracks sound more complete and full than your average trio could muster. Fans of their debut are sure to see this as the next step in the evolutionary progress of the group. Hats off.

For unconditional emotion from the male point of few, check out Steve Northeast's intense little self-titled EP. These four heavily emotional power-pop songs, with their focused message and structure, charge directly into your brain, barreling through all pretense. It's straight-from and straight-to-the-heart stuff that speaks for the romantic, the idealist, the lover, the hopeless (or hopeful) devotee, the Icarus, the Abelard in us all. And it's a firm marriage of song and sound. "I want to share with you the air I breathe. I'm not pretending anymore - you are everything to me." Indeed.

Steve Northeast EP Review

Steve Northeast will instantly remind you of other voices you have heard over the years. Neil Diamond is one that came to mind for me. I am sure individual listeners will find their own commonality with his voice and music. This one factor gives him an immediate advantage with the release of the self-titled EP Steve Northeast.
Northeast presents four tracks that focus on his hearty vocals and high-energy modern rock sound. “Land of The Living” is a hands down favorite and surely the one standout track that will get him the attention he deserves. The track is certainly my choice for a potential single and the one I would push out to listeners so they can get a strong sense of his powerful presence behind the microphone and rockin’ guitar playing.
This EP has every indication of creating a stir for this artist; every track is strong, focusing on the artist and his band’s overall strengths. A win win situation like this will garner results rather quickly. The only thing he needs to do now is follow up with an equally strong full-length album to maintain the momentum started by this EP.

Do you come from a land down under? Oh yeah! Steve Northeast is a singer/songwriter from Melbourne, Australia who now performs in the NYC clubs and bars slowly making a name for himself in the Northeast.
Steve writes emotional driven rock songs that are meant to deliver a message to touch the listener and guide them to a certain direction.
His sound resembles U2, Live and possibly an INXS type band in which he can orchestrate a ballad to complete a love scene. Once you hear his voice you can easlily connect it. Northeast has released a four song EP that represents some powerful music and some signs of what's to come. Currently in the studio working on his first full-length solo album.
Steve was impressive on his first CD but now the true test is if he can keep the spark of interest in everyone's minds. He can make a solo act impressive but with a band his music speaks larger volumes and illuminates an audience.
His lyrics are passionate and strong full of emotions of love and pain.
The Northeast is ready for more, now it's up to Steve Northeast to deliver. - In-Tune- Dan Rondinelli
Steve Northeast, a singer/songwriter/musician from Australia via New York, sent me a project that features a simple, emotive ballad which would be the perfect backdrop for a dramatic love scene in a feature film.

CD Review: I love romantic movies. There's always that scene between the guy and the girl where one of them realizes that they have found the person of their dreams. Usually, in the movies (and sometimes in real life) the person who comes to this realization does so when it's almost too late. Enter Steve Northeast: A singer / songwriter / musician from Australia via New York, who has a simple, emotive song which is the perfect backdrop for that obligatory love scene between two characters who kiss too long in the rain, or re-unite at the last minute before a scheduled flight takes off at the airport.
This is the song that is played, at a loud volume, during that scene after one of the characters makes the revelation that the other has been dying to hear, but didn't think they would. It's got it all: the accessible lyrics; the poignant strings; the heartfelt vocals; and the dramatic drums that pound heavy and then soft for effect. It's destined to be in a major motion picture soundtrack.
Advice: Get this licensed to film and television and do NOT settle for a mere incidental background use. This song needs to be featured prominently.

Down under singer / song-writer Steve Northeast is out to make his mark on the Big Apple. Taking his unique blend of soulful rock n’ roll to the masses whether it be an acoustic solo effort or a full out show with his band. His influences include Pearl Jam, U2, Live, Sting, Bruce Springsteen and Paul Weller. These four songs have the big and powerful sound that Northeast was hoping to capture. “Land Of The Living” being the perfect example of that. I’m looking forward to reviewing his full-length, major label debut.

EP
With only four songs on this EP, it is a good sampling of Steve Northeast's style. It's rigid rock with thoughtful lyrics. And it revives the Pearl Jam sound, vocally and in sound. Yes, there's a little bit of Hootie and the Blowfish's Darius Rucker in Northeast's vocals. In "Open Up Your Heart" the sound softens as he sings, "You've got to believe/You've got to have faith/You've got to give/When you want to take." The album reveals a softer side as it progresses, and seems to get better by "Everything to Me," which is the last track. He's got a fairly bright future, but I don't think it will shine fully until his next release. - Discovering Artists
Steve Northeast crafts energetic and emotional hard rock songs loaded with raspy guitars and cataclysmic rhythms. He puts a lot of emotion into the songs, and that, together with the deep engagement with what's going on the world, means that at times he risks overwhelming the production's generous musicality - and the excellent guitar work - with lyrics that bend towards earnest cliche. But at their best, the songs evoke the David Bowie of Heroes and the Soundgarden of the '90s. Favorites: "The Way It Is," "Out of Here," and the power ballad "Phoenix." - Indie Round- Up.. John Sobel
Steve Northeast came from Australia to bring his own style of rock to the United States. His debut album, "Inside", is soon to be released in America and fans are going to want to pick this disc up.
Steve is a phenomenal guitarist and proves it with every song. Whether he plays acoustic or electric, his guitar tells a story all by itself. Steve's lyrics touch base with any person from all backgrounds. He speaks about all emotions and is truly passionate about what he writes. The guitar riffs are technical, yet not hard to follow at all. They create a vibe that leaves you wanting to hear what comes next. The vocals tell people to stand up and witness what is going on around them. If they don't like it, do something. This positive message is good to hear in music today. Fans of the Foo Fighters or Pearl Jam would fall in love with Steve's music. I will definitely pick his cd up and tell everyone about Steve Northeast. He may never break through and become a star, but his music definitely stands out as something to be passed around. - Target Audience Magazine- Mark Mcpheeters
Rock music has a new messiah in the form of Steve Northeast. Steve, originally from Australia, began to make his musical presence in the states when he moved to New York City in 2002. The extremely talented singer/songwriter is delivering to the genre of Rock something that is putting the edge back in Rock music. With his long awaited debut album, Steve Northeast has created something that is magical and joyful to the listeners. After reviewing his EPK (Electronic Press Kit) on Sonicbids (Music Resource/Submission Giant), we just knew we had to feature him on Junior’s Cave. Check out this spotlight with the entertainer.
Isaac-Joseph: Thank you for taking the time to do this interview for the magazine. I wanted to wish you a Happy New Year. How are you doing today?
Steve Northeast: Great thanks, things are going well.
Isaac-Joseph: You are originally from Australia; what was the deciding factor that made you want to move from your homeland to the states to pursue your music?
Steve Northeast: I knew that I had to move to New York from Australia to take my music to a new and global level. The opportunity was there and I knew I had to seize it.
Isaac-Joseph: Since being in New York City, what has been the biggest adjustment you have had to make as a musician?
Steve Northeast: When I moved to New York from Australia I had no contacts in the music industry so I really had to start again in a sense. Getting gigs meeting the right musicians etc it take's time. Also, lugging my gear around the city without a car. That was something I wasn't used to. When I experienced my first winter here, I was looking forward to not only playing but warming up.
Isaac-Joseph: Professionally, what would you say is the biggest difference between Australia and New York City performing in venues?
Steve Northeast: In NYC, you are sharing the night with six or seven bands where as in Australia you maybe sharing the stage with one or two other bands. With the amount of bands playing on the bill in NYC, you have to be ready to set your stage gear up in five minutes play your set then get off the stage in two minutes. In Australia, it's a little more laid back than that. Having said that, it really feels something special to have the opportunity of performing NYC.
Isaac-Joseph: You released your debut album entitled “Inside” describe the creative process that you underwent to make this album and the meaning behind the album:
Steve Northeast: I wrote all the songs on my debut album "Inside" on acoustic guitar except the title track "Inside" that came on piano. I then with my drummer Carlos AguiIar and bass player Alejandro Haaker rehearsed the songs and did shows along the way to get the initial feel and structure of the tunes. I like to have big sounding songs that are memorable in their own way. I wanted "Inside" to sound real, capturing something between a live show and a well produced album. The meaning behind the album is about not giving up. There are time's in ones life where you might not be able to control what's going on around you but you can do something about what you as a individual are putting out into the world.
Isaac-Joseph: As a singer/songwriter, what has been the most rewarding aspect of making music?
Steve Northeast: For me there is nothing better than connecting with your audience. When you have someone say to you that they love your music or a particular song that you have written, that to me is the ultimate reward as a singer/songwriter.
Isaac-Joseph: What has been the one moment in your career that has made you realized that making music is in your blood? (Please Elaborate)
Steve Northeast: It was very early on for me that I knew that playing music was in my blood. As soon as I started learning guitar, I remember really being hooked on music. I would play for hours and hours with time seemingly flying bye. Being able to get lost in another place simply by picking up the guitar felt very empowering. Just putting something out in the world that only now exists because of what you created felt awesome.
Isaac-Joseph: Name some of your influences musically and the lessons you have learned from their own music:
Steve Northeast: I have always gravitated to music that moves and inspires you. Bands like Pearl Jam, Live and U2. I also enjoy the music of Bob Mould from Husker Du and Sugar his music has been a big influence on me. I like his song writing and the intensity of his guitar playing... very raw and powerful.
Isaac-Joseph: Describe the feeling you have when you are performing live on stage:
Steve Northeast: When I'm performing on stage it's as if nothing else matters. I'd like to think that people at my shows feel the same way, caught in a moment of time for a while letting the music and lyrics take them to another place.

As a staff writer for Skope, lots of CD’s come across my desk. This release from Steve Northeast immediately caught my attention. Steve is living in NYC via Australia from 2002. He came to the US for a new life and to pursue a career in music. This is his debut album that he is putting out independently through Tidal Records.
I have listened to this CD now over 3 times straight through. I am a firm believer that is the only way to really be able to form an opinion. I also like to judge a CD by three variables. Those are sound quality, depth of songwriting, and radio/video friendly songs.
This CD sounds super clear. The vocals and instrumentals are aligned perfectly. You can tell that Steve was very particular in how the final mix came out. Steve’s songwriting is very personal and real. You can tell that he is speaking on real life. I would guess that the most personal song on the album is “Save A Prayer.” If I were to pick the first single or video for this album I would have to choose the opening track, “Run Free.” It sets the tone for the rest of the album.
Overall I really enjoyed this album and would suggest you to check it out. Steve can be found online at www.stevenortheast.com. Some tracks of note that really grabbed me were, “I Want You” & “Life.” Thank you Steve for showing again that the indie scene is strong & thriving, great album!

Bio
Like the troubadours of old, Steve Northeast has travelled the world singing his songs that tell tales of life – what he sees around him and what he’s experienced himself.
In true 'make it here, make it anywhere' fashion, Aussie singer/songwriter Steve Northeast relocated to New York City in 2002. Honing his craft and pursuing musical stardom in NYC venues, he first gained prominence with the release of his debut album Inside.
Steve Northeast writes more than just lyrics to melodies, he writes stories about the real world and real life that everyone and anyone can relate to.
Northeast's highly anticipated follow-up Another Day, a 10-track dynamo of 'raw and powerful' songs serve as testament to Northeast's evolutionary path to song writing and sheer musicality. Steve’s sophomore effort, Another Day, is a very modern sounding album that blends his intense lyrical content with great musicianship into a variety of radio friendly songs that also come across live.
While Inside introduced us to the travels and life’s journey of this gifted troubadour, Another Day gives us a deeper look into the heart and mind of a poet.
One can only wonder where Steve Northeast’s song writing and performing talents will take us next. Someplace special, no doubt.
