Loud. Review
Review By: Taylor Harmeyer, with a Foreword by Dan S.
Where do I even begin with Steady Flow? I’ve known these guys for what I would consider a long time now. Officially formed in 2012, my connection with the group runs deeper than that. Growing up in Central Illinois myself, there is not much going on as far as the music scene unless you are heading 2-3 hours north to Chicago, or 1-2 hours south to St. Louis. In one of my many attempts to form an escape from the ritualistic lifestyle of cornfields and humidity filled summers, I ventured to one of my first Dave Matthews Band shows in Bridgeview, IL. It was 2007 or 2008 (boy does that seem like an eternity ago) when I first met guitarist Tanner Brown. Tanner couldn’t have been much older than 15 at the time, but man did he shred harder than anyone I knew. Throughout the next 5 years our friendship continued, seeing each other randomly at DMB shows, meandering through a sticky Summer Camp Music Festival in 2009/2010, and even playing Saxophone with a now-defunct arrangement of the band in someone’s basement in Morton, IL (bonus points if you can figure out which tiny music festival I played with them before they got big!) If you haven’t heard of Steady Flow until now, prepare you ears to be rocked. LOUD.

What do you get when you combine irresistibly danceable funk music with a bunch of hilarious Old Gregg samples? Well, you get Steady Flow’s new album “Loud.”. I had never heard of, let alone listened to this up-and-coming funk band out of Central Illinois. However, after listening to the first two songs, I was immediately hooked.
Loud. opens up with the unbelievably catchy “But Can You Dance?” and keeps the party going from there. The rest of the album is stacked with catchy jams like “Just Look At It”, “Tony’s Market”, and “Sofistapunk”. The album is extremely well-rounded and closes out with “Camelback Spook Lounge”, ending the album on a different note.
If you’re looking for a fresh, exciting funk album – look no further. Steady Flow presents you with an incredibly solid collection of 12 funky tracks that are sure to keep you dancing all day (and night, if that’s your thing). So, don’t be a breadstick, get a little rhythm, and listen to this album. It will be sure to add some much needed funk to your life!
