STATIC EFFECT

Formed from the ashes of two hard rock heavyweights, Static Effect breathes new life into hard rock. After the disbandment of Santa Cruz band Cylinder, drummer Will Allen began writing songs without the intention of forming a new band. His demo caught the ear of fellow Cylinder bassist Mike King and the two began refining what was to become "Beg". The two realized they needed a guitarist and enlisted the help of former Mirros guitarist Neal Engelhaupt. The musical chemistry between the trio was undeniable, but a vocalist was needed to round out the line up and portray the voice of the band.

Enter Todd Joseph, a San Francisco native who was familiar with Cylinder's music and stumbled upon an ad of a new band forming. Todd, aka TJ, had cut his teeth in cover bands but was looking for something new and original, something to allow him to create a name of his own. Upon the first audition it was apparent that the band had found someone with a sound all his own. The musical chemistry between the four blossomed into a creative fire with the vocal melodies for "Beg" essentially being written that same night. The band had found it's musical identity and now they had a voice to carry it.

Songs like "Beg" and "Awake" showcase the quiet/loud dynamic of the group's writing; clean verses give way to anthemic choruses that portray the melodic, 'radio-friendly' aspects of the group's writing talents. High-energy tracks like "Fake" and "Fight or Die" display the edge, power and ferocity their former bands have been known for while breaking into a fresh sound. Within the band's short lifespan fans of their previous bands have already flocked to social networks in support, chomping at the bit for any song teasers and raving about the 'modern sound' Static Effect has developed. The band is due to release a four song demo by the end of 2014 and is gearing up to play shows locally in support.
