The door opens and Spencer takes flight on his debut album. With raging guitars ringing chords of freedom he swings for the bleachers on this release.Staking his home in the genre of Alternative Rock you will find songs that range from remorse to mischievous abandon. Mildly distorted guitars paint of soundscape of angst with melodic vocals as a counter point. The bass lines help the songs spin and bounce and add a healthy dose of playfulness and keep the songs from getting too dour. Drum work is solid and give Spencer’s songs room to breathe. While Spencer is only 21 he tells the stories of a well traveled man. Songs of heart break and overcoming it prominent on this release. Spencer Joyce is an Annapolis, MD-based musician who combines the Singer-songwriter sensibilities of Neil Young, Noel Gallagher, and John Mayer with the beautiful weirdness of The Beatles, Queen, and Coldplay and the hard rocking edge of The Rolling Stones, The Sex Pistols, and Green Day to lift his tell-it-like-it-is lyrics up.
Spencer released his entirely self-produced debut album, "Overnight Rockstar" on Alchemical Records in March 2014 and has since toured relentlessly, building up fan bases in the Mid-Atlantic as far north at New York City and as far south as Charlotte, NC and becoming a regular in bars & pubs in Annapolis, Baltimore, and DC as both a solo acoustic artist & as an electric one-man-band, a project he dubs "Spencer Joyce & The Record Machine"
February 2015 saw the release of the single "Elephant In A Jar", produced by John Brooks at For The Record Productions in Harrisonburg, VA as well as its accompanying music video, directed by Taylor Wyscarver. The single received much praise, with Joe Fitzpatrick of The Dominion Collective saying the single had "given new life to his songwriting". "Elephant In A Jar" also serves as the teaser single for Spencer's upcoming EP "August Is The Sunday Of The Year", which is expected to drop in August 2016.
