Bio
South To Cedars is a four-piece acoustic Americana band based in Fort Collins, Colorado. Described as a powerhouse of tight vocal harmony and acoustic instrumentation, the band blends elements of folk, bluegrass, and rock to deliver an original brand of genre-bending tunes that honor a variety of styles and influences. While original songs run the gamut between traditional singer/songwriter & modern acoustic roots-rock, familiar cover tunes are creatively rebirthed for audiences to hear them in an entirely new way.
Ben Haugestuen - guitar, harmonica, vocals
Ben grew up in Montana and has been playing guitar and writing songs for over 20 years. His previous bands and musical projects have spanned several genres but his most recent influences are indie, folk, and bluegrass.
Shawna Stratton - vocals, rhythm
A native of Loveland, Colorado, Shawna was singing before she could speak. By the time she was 16, she was performing with a traveling variety show that put her in front of audiences across the country. Her down-home vocal style reflects influences that are deeply rooted in country, bluegrass, and folk, with just a hint of rock and roll to spice things up. When she's not experimenting with new and original vocals for South to Cedars, Shawna enjoys performing with the bluegrass band, Jerusalem Road, where she also sings, plays guitar, and can bang out some mad rhythm on the spoons! "For me, music is communal and transformational. As a singer, my greatest wish is to leave you better than I found you...deeply satisfied, and always wanting just a little more." - Shawna StrattonGreg Fischer - fiddle, vocals
Greg was born in Wisconsin and has played the violin since 4th grade. Inspired by the album Will the Circle Be Unbroken, he began fiddling in high school and has played in a number of bluegrass and old-time string bands over the years. His main motivation is to bring the joy of home-grown music to everybody. He is a software engineer by trade.
Jim Eads - bass, vocals
Jim is a graduate of the Jazz school at the University of Northern Colorado who has spent most of his life piddling and playing around the northern front range. He plays bass, guitar, banjo, and mandolin. Being in South to Cedars gives him an opportunity to roll with a different crowd.Band Members
