Bio
Sheldon Holder is the front man of a band called BIOPIC. Their eclectic brand of music fuses Dirty Calypso and Reggae into the Rock and Roll sound machine, and has become a sound to be reckoned with in the Toronto music scene, creating a dancing frenzy each time they hit the stage.
With critical acclaim on BBC radio, an award winning video for his song Prosper, and local and international performances under his belt, Sheldon made a bold move and came back to Canada after living in Trinidad since the age of eight.
Sheldon`s music has been a driving force in the Caribbean`s underground music scene for more than a decade. He has also been highlighted in many mainstream events such as Caribbean Fashion Week in Jamaica, The Tobago International Jazz Festival. Sheldon has also played shows with calypso royalty The Mighty Sparrow and David Rudder, as well as Caribbean legends 3Canal and Mungal Patasar. In 2009 Sheldon was part of Canadian Music Week opening for the Dirty Heads as well as Mishka
More recently, Sheldon was praised in the New York Times by Project Runway winner Anya Ayoung-Chee who has used Sheldon's music in her runway shows in the Caribbean and abroad.
In addition to his music, Sheldon has been heavily involved with a creative space called Alice Yard, and has been profiled globally, most recently as part of the Global Africa Project held last year at the MAD in New York City where his album cover was part of the exhibit. Alice Yard has been listed in the New York Times as one of the top ten places to visit in Trinidad and Tobago. It is one of the focal points for the subculture of the region for both music and art.
In 2012 Sheldon forged his way onto the Toronto music scene to form his current musical incarnation BIOPIC including an array of accomplished Toronto musicians such as lead guitarist Josh Lopez, Bass man Ben Huband, Drummer Nicholas Otway, Keyboardist Richard Fairthorne, Saxophonist Graeme Wallace, and Trombonist Christon Jones. With increasing momentum BIOPIC has played many of Toronto's top music venues as well as gracing the stages of festivals such as the Tall Ships Music Festival at harbourfront, and headlining the main stage at last summer's the Taste of the Danforth.
In 2014 Sheldon's composition Imagination was Chosen to be the Anthem for the (ACF) Americas Competitiveness forum. The song was the soundtrack to to the forums initiative to inspire young people to believe in them selves and be innovative.
BIOPIC will be entering the studio this year to record a new album, and they will be performing this summer at a Festival near you!
