For Lovers of old time country music, this self-made, release by Sam Allison and Teilhard Frost performing as Sheesham and Lotus comes as a real shot of joy for anyone lucky enough to have run into this disc. This is a recording where the players give into the temptation to just "give 'er" and it really works. As pickers and singers, they perform old time music as if born into it. These guys, from around Kingston, ON, are so in love with old time stringband music that the excitement jumps into the room directly through the speakers. You have no choice, ya have to dance. When this advance copy is eventually put out as a "real" CD, complete with some notes and a decent cover, I hope that they don't give into the temptation to mix or master it, it's great just like it is.

Sheesham and Lotus and 'Son have created a sonic and visual language that simultaneously harkens back to the early days of recording and performance as well as providing a revisionist take on the old and farmiliar themes of Old-time music.
A feast for the eyes and ears alike, the Sheesham and Lotus and 'Son stage is a testament to old technologies and new sonic ideas presented to the audience in a bombastic and friendly fashion, creating an environment of sepia-tinged musical textures and horn-modified vocals that evoke a feeling of antiquity. Bass harmonicas, jaw-harps and sousaphone in tandem with cello-banjo and fiddles are played with relish and skill. The Sheesham and Lotus and 'Son show will surprise and delight with beautiful instruments, period costume and innovative design of sound and objects that exceeds the confines of what today comprises the 'old-time stringband'.
Special attention to lighting and costume brings the show together in an astounding mix of fiddle tunes, ragtime, old-time sibling harmony and good-time blues, the likes of which will defy expectation and explaination.
The collective talents of these three gents will indeed be a feather in the cap of many a festival workshop programmer!
