Shahidah Omar‘s sound blends so many genres in one it seems almost effortless, leaving one to question how to categorize it. Is she opera, trance, dance, soul, house, classical with a twist? The only conclusion is that Shahidah has truly carved out a sound all her own. Her current album includes high energy dance inducing cuts such as “Freedom”, “People of the world” and “Live my dream”. SHAH XO, a Chicago native, is a singer-songwriter, producer, and composer.
The empowering lyrical content consisting of unapologetic strength and candor, meets the instrumentals drawing from numerous influences and her classically trained operatic vocals that demolish the borders of genres in her music. The aftermath is something different, something she owns, and something that revolts against the conventional sound.
Genre: Eclectic: Hybrid of Soul, Alternative Rock, Hip Hop and Synth Pop.
SHAH XO independently released her sophomore album in September 2018, “SHAHclectic,” where she solidified her artistic vision as an independent artist.
Boldly exhibiting her talents as a producer, composer, musician and lyricist, this project was a result of SHAH XO’s necessity; the necessity to create.
Overall, “SHAHclectic” was an embodiment of her genuinity that recorded her soul and her artist identity not only for her own needs for a creative outlet but also for her to resonate with her audience.
SHAH XO takes pride in living in full color.
Her petite frame stands tall in owning all of her differences in sound while rebelling against the socially constructed ideologies that are automatically expected from her.
Independently releasing her freshman album entitled “Freedom“ on “The Bonnie Hunt Show,” she showcased her operatic vocal talents and simultaneously drew her lyrical contents from the struggles of the world that SHAH XO witnessed throughout her life.
Musically, the release encompassed Alternative and Rock genres.
SHAH XO loves the large stages. Playing Bonnaroo Music Festivals two years consecutively was only one of the few highlights of that album.
Since then SHAH XO, has enjoyed more time on the screen, including two appearances on “The Arsenio Hall Show” as well as a recurring role on BET spoof reality show “Real Husbands of Hollywood”, and a recent appearance on ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show."
SHAH XO, has had tracks published in film and television, and plans to take her heights even higher.
