Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Kern.

Hi Andrew, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Well, it all started when I was 13 I got my first guitar. I taught myself how to play but just listening to songs and trying to learn and got a chord book at a local music shop. By the time I was 16 I joined my first band A Long Awaited Tragedy. We were a melodic hardcore/screamo band that lasted from 2005-2009. After that band ended I kinda just played around in different bands in different states and played solo stuff nothing ever really came together. By 2016 I joined another band called Swimmers Lungs which was a chaotic hardcore emo-violence band. That band disbanded in 2019. When swimmers lungs was no more I had a void that I needed to fill because music is my outlet I struggle with depression and anxiety and music is my therapy. I wanted to do something different this time than the usual band route so I went solo. I started by just making beats on GarageBand and using a tablet to sing into. Lol.

I wrote about what I was going through at that time in my life. I’ve struggled with addiction most of my life and it has cost me a lot of things in life and has had me almost end my own life a couple times. In 2017 I went to rehab and took it serious this time because I just couldn’t keep barely living how I had been for so many years. So I started Scryy. I was dealing with just getting clean going through a horrible divorce and not sure if I wanted to stay clean. Scryy is my outlet to talk about the thoughts that I deal with on a regular basis the feeling of not wanting to leave my room or get out of bed or eat and just the feelings of complete hopelessness. It helps me really get those feelings out of myself and hope that it reaches someone else who may be struggling and let them know they aren’t alone.

In 2020, I released my first full length album called Breaking all of my insecurities which dove deep into my past years of hard drug use and mental health issues. After that, I just started releasing singles. Exactly one year later I released my newest EP called Despair which is a storyline about my depression, addiction wanting to quit music altogether and a miscarriage I and my girlfriend had that made me lose a spark of life I once felt in my entire life. Scryy is not just music to me it’s more like an open diary that is open for the world to see.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The struggles has been my brain just constant battle to give up in life in general that I have to overcome.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m known for making sad music lol I’m most proud of my last EP Despair because it’s something that holds a special place in my heart. What sets me apart from others is I’m just me I don’t know I’m not trying to be anyone else. I am Scryy.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Have no expectations can be the hardest thing that I’m trying to learn on this journey.
