"MusicAustin Review"

"Scott Hawley is a young songwriter-songwriter... He appears in spots such as The Cactus Cafe, Artz Rib House and JP's Java. He gets noticed for his intelligent lyrics, and has even been known to mention the philosopher Camus in his songs. His day job is at the Center for Relativity at the University of Texas, so it is safe to say that he understands what Einstein was all about as well as what a song lyric is all about. " - MusicAustin

"Praise from Doster"

"Scott Hawley has found a way to write unusually intelligent lyrics that hit me square in the gut -- the songs affect me more emotionally than cerebrally. Combine this with a gift for melody, a natural tenor, and Michael-Hedges-inspired guitar playing, and you have Scott Hawley. I'm truly proud to have worked with him." - Stephen Doster (producer)

"Bruce Newlin says..."

"Of the 300 songwriters who have performed at our weekly showcases, Scott Hawley is among a very few who have it all... lyrically, melodically, instrumentally and vocally. Think 'James Taylor' and you'll come close to what Scott delivers with each performance."
- Bruce Newlin, Tres Hombres Publishing

Bio

Scott Hawley is a singer-songwriter-guitarist wrapped up in the modern American struggles of identity, technology and transcendence. His stories of searching for love and meaning are delivered with catchy melodies and inspiring acoustic guitar technique. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Michael Hedges and David Wilcox, Scott delivers his unique songs in a style he describes with a wink as "Rock, trying to be folk." He recently returned to Austin from a two-year stint in Berlin, Germany where he headlined to packed clubs like Checkpoint and the Bebop Bar. He then distinguished himself among Austin's rising crop of talented singer-songwriters by his energetic performances, both solo and with his band. He teamed up with producer Stephen Doster (who has worked with Lyle Lovett, Dr. John and Double Trouble, and others) to record five careful vignettes in the rootsy vein Austin is known for. He moved to Nashville in 2006 to take up a professorship in physics at Belmont University, and...pretty much stopped making music for six years. Now, with teaching duties under control and research underway, Hawley is exercising his "right brain" once again... :-)
