Sasha Renee’s confident, Kendrick Lamar-like cadence machine guns in “My City” with a dark, but jam-worthy, mid-90s backbone, as she contemplates her place in Louisville’s sharp and growing hip-hop scene. - Leo Weekly
I knew nothing about Sasha Renee before hearing her featured verse on RMLLW2LLZ‘s killer 2016 track “The Pedigree”, but after first listen she immediately had my attention. Who is this, and where the hell did she come from? After a bit of Googling I realized that according to her Bandcamp page she’d been at it since at least 2011, and that she had a new EP on the way (that has since been released).
The title of that EP is I Am Sasha Renee, and since hitting the streets it has quickly become one of my favorite albums from 2017. Her clever wordplay and swag-tastic personality are magnetic while the beats and overall production are of the A-1 variety. This is the kind of noise that sounds great in your car with the windows down and/or in your backyard while grilling some pork chops and throwing back a few beers. At least that’s how I’ve been enjoying it. - Never-Nervous Blog
With a flow that recalls the best of the golden-era of hip-hop, you can hear Digable Planets in Sasha Renee’s music, both in terms of production and lyrical reference, a jazzy kind of cool that demands you nod along. With I Am Sasha Renee dropping last month, Renee is making a name for herself as an emcee of note, a playful lyricist backed by hot beats and solid guest spots including the always-on-point Otis Junior. There is a youthful energy to her music that puts you in a certain headspace listening, sometimes R-rated, but always a welcome presence. So far, her output is rock solid.—Syd Bishop - Leo Weekly
SHE’S SOMETHING NEW FROM TODAY’S FEMALES AND SHE REMINDS ME ALOT OF A MIXTURE OF ERYKAH BADY, LAURYN HILL AND A LITTLE OF INDIA ARIE, WHICH IS A HUGE COMPLIMENT. - www.daddyshangout.com
The Louisville native is back.
Way back when we were doing our Sunday Spotlight mixtapes, Sasha Renee graced us with an appearance on Vol 2 of the short lived series (we may need to bring this back).
As a past Sunday Spotlight artist, we here at Da Den was patiently awaiting for a new body of work from the Louisville native and today we got our wish as she delivers her first EP, I Am Sasha Renee.
The 7 track project finds Sasha going back and forth with “poetic flows to smooth neo-soul vocals”, telling her personal story. She grabs production from Ricky Boom, Axl Rich and others while Otis Junior, Charisma and Kori Black chime in as features. - Str8OutDaDen
Sasha Renee comes out swinging with a track that’s equal parts chill, cool and ready to get the fuck down. This song carries confidence in not only the lyrics, but in the vocal delivery, which is as self-assured as the narrative requires. The chorus is hook heavy and smooth, with a Missy Elliott, Da Brat or Lil’ Kim vibe filtered through a kind of New Jack Swing thing — fresh but definitely familiar. - Leo Weekly
Sasha is a young talented, lyrical emcee who's turning out to be a wonderful addition to Kentucky's hip hop scene. I'm looking forward to what she produces next. - Tasha at shebloggin.com
Originally from Louisville, Kentucky this femcee has continued to pump out good music. Lazies meet Sasha Renee. Her unique ability to perfectly blend southern lyrical rap, new school conscious, rnb, and neo-soul together is what caught my attention. - tastemakerz.com

Bio
Sasha Renee is a Louisville female rapper making her own waves. Sasha fell in love with Hip-Hop, R&B, and Neo-Soul music at a very young age. At 10 years old, she started working towards her dreams and writing rhymes like many of the artist she grew up listening to. The likes of Nas, Jay-Z, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill and Sade, helped to shape her penmanship.
After years of writing songs in her notebooks and only sharing with family and friends, Sasha recorded her first song in 2010. By 2011, she was under the management of Double A Entertainment and released two underground mixtapes. “A Proper Introduction” and the “Yearned Presence” mixtapes were both released before 2012; both were hosted by DJ Genius. Sasha Renee gained a lot of online and in-person support on an international level.
Sasha Renee was nominated for #1 Female Hip-Hop Artist at the Kymp Kamp awards in Kentucky in 2013 and 2014 all while going through a few label changes. “Love Lost” was released as her first official single with much success.
Sasha continued to record and release new music including a compilation album. Recognizing the need to showcase like artist in her own hometown, Sasha launched her weekly soul based open mic event "The Vibe" in Louisville. The Vibe has since become a staple in the Louisville music scene with artist, poets and creatives traveling from surrounding cities to be heard.
Word about the opportunities stemming from Sasha Renee’s own weekly open mic event, The Vibe, allowed for the female artist to travel with her music, release an EP “I Am Sasha Renee” in 2017 and win the KUEA award for Best Female Hip-Hop artist in Kentucky in 2017 and 2018. “I Am Sasha Renee” was received very well, steering Sasha Renee towards becoming a dedicated independent artist. Her consistent work ethic and fine artistry in music has gained the support of many near and far, and she only looks forward to going up from here.
