Rosie Lee and The Cherokee

Jim Cochran has played Bass, Rhythm and Lead Guitar for forty years, he is particularly known as a Blues Guitarist, and has played with the Nighthawks, The Robert Cray Band as well as other musicians a very quiet unassuming guy, who is very modest about his excellent talent .Jim Cochran became a great blues guitarist in later years (late 70s / early 80s) playing at many of the blues show in Portland. He performed with Curtis Salgado many times and with Robert Cray.

Their run was about ’74 to ’77. They were a s$#* hot outfit of equal parts of finesse and fiery energy. On a good night nobody could touch them. Besides playing twin bills as Double Trouble, they had gigs as the Crayhawks with Cray, Richard Cousins, DK Stewart, Curt Salgado and Dave Olson on drums. 
Salgado befriended John Belushi while Curt was still in the Nighthawks (and Belushi was in Eugene filming “Animal House”) and turned him onto blues and R&B. This was the inspiration for the Blues Brothers which had its start as a skit on SNL. 
Besides Salgado, both Stewart and Dave Olson would go on to play in later line-ups of the Robert Cray Band. Stewart would also play in the Paul DeLay Band for a spell before launching a successful regional career.

Maria Cochran has been singing since she could talk, as a child won awards at various concerts in the U.K. and Ireland was a session singer for several years whilst following her other passions which were Law and showing her Dogs, particular interest in Genetics, which is interesting that Jim actually played in a band called the Genetics! An excellent front person now, can belt out a Rock Song, or sing the softest Melody makes the audience feel included, known for her joking with the audience whilst on stage and sometimes bringing them up to sing a tune or two! Jim is Cherokee and Maria is English of Irish/Welsh descent. And the name Rosie Lee & The Cherokee?, well Jim being Cherokee, guess that speaks for itself, but why is Maria Rosie Lee?? Some of you will get it:-)
