Roses & Revolution - The Pines
Sounds like: Marian Hill, Alpines, The Civil Wars
Why do we like this?
Vocalist Alyssa Coco and guitarist Matt Merritt are the creative duo behind Roses & Revolution. They've just released their new track "The Pines," a haunting and hazy indie pop track inspired by the 90's TV show Twin Peaks.
Coco's breathy voice drips into the rhythmic creases between guitar notes and subdued hi-hats, giving this one an eerie and melodic feel to it. The desolate production provides a soundtrack to seclusion; emphasizing the escapist attitude of the lyrics.
This one shows an electronic shift for the duo, whose past work has been considerably more folk infused. They also do a killer rendition of The Weeknd's "The Hills." Keep up with them on Facebook.

Rochester duo Roses & Revolutions released a wildly ethereally new track today, “The Pines.” Beginning with a capella minimalism and eventually exploding into a much fuller sound, “The Pines” is as much an exploration of a place as it is an exploration of a sound. Check it out below and keep your eyes peeled for the duo’s upcoming EP.
Here’s what Roses & Revolutions had to say about the new track:
The inspiration for “The Pines” came about after we binge watched the 90’s TV show, Twin Peaks for the hundreth time. It’s a song that explores the haunting serenity of being alone in the woods at night and having that secret place that only you and another know about.” - All Things Go
