"Review: Rome D'Carlo Says Hello"

"With Rome D’Carlo blending the elements of “flow flexing” and maturity while delivering his 1st original project, you may ask what’s missing? I’d say not much, but there is a little feeling that Mr. D’Carlo is saving more for later, and is only getting his feet wet. No worries, this young up-and-comer is poised to make waves in the near future with his level-headedness and production. Bridging the gap is what the masses are asking for, while giving us a reason to stay with Hip-Hop is what the game needs. The city of Greensboro, the state of North Carolina, and the world says hello back Rome D’Carlo.

"Video Feature: Rome D'Carlo - "Boom!""

"...Rome D’Carlo brings a chaotic, yet controlled presence to “Boom!” by matching the frenetic pace of the drum claps, as well as the various tempo changes in the beat. It is an impressive performance. Check it out, now!" - Poisonous Planet

"Artist of the Week"

"...It does me well to know that there are artists that still have a sense of dignity and are able to convey it in a way that’s not corny. My personal favorite song from Rome is off of his first solo project titled Eclectic Soul. The track is titled Broken Hourglass. Over an emotion filled piano sample, he tells the stories of hopeless individuals that have turned to drugs as a result of hardship in their lives. He expressed that inspiration for this piece was received from his tenure volunteering at a homeless shelter and his uncle’s personal battle with drugs. This song reveals the harsh reality of many people today." - Cuts From a Different Cloth

"Local Talent"

"If you’re a fan of open-mic nights in town, you may have seen Jerome “Rome D’Carlo” Pearson perform. Depending on the night of the week, Rome can be found at the Boston House of Jazz performing with a live band or at the Flat Iron, Blue Door or Sessions doing spoken word, poetry, or hip hop with a back-up guitarist. Even though he has only been performing solo for a year, crowds love him. Furthering a longstanding interest in hip hop, he bought all the classic albums he could find in high school. A former WUAG DJ and recent UNCG graduate, Rome said his primary influence is God, followed by Nas and Outkast. As a student, he did promotional work with Atlantic Records and interned at Rock 92. Now the Lawrenceville, Georgia native is studying sound engineering at GTCC, so he can engineer his own sessions and work at venues with other artists.?

Bio

Stepping into a saturated genre full of repetitive messages, God-fearing North Carolina alternative hip-hop artist Rome D'Carlo seeks to move against hip-hop's status quo by bringing a variety of themes into his music.

Rome is a versatile entertainer who is known to incorporate elements of spoken word into his performances, while also heavily emphasizing both freestyling and acapella rap between songs to display lyrical acumen. The 25-year-old performs both with live bands and DJs, depending on the accommodations of the venue. In terms of voice and subject matter, the most common comparison among listeners has been to legendary hip-hop artist Common.

In 2012, while in college, Rome achieved a personal dream-come-true when he was invited to perform in front of Russell Simmons during the Greensboro leg of his Obama Re-Election Voter Registration campaign. His music has been featured on local commercial radio giant WJMH 102 Jamz, as well as WNAA 90.1FM Poetry Cafe and WUAG 103.1FM.

Rome D'Carlo is a student of hip-hop and its roots, while also understanding the need for the genre to evolve and stay relevant through new creative endeavors. It is this understanding that keeps him humble, constantly seeking to improve, until his unique purpose is fully realized.
