Bio
Rob DeFriese’s songs are intensely stirring and touch the soul, inviting listeners to travel within and find an unexpected epiphany.
The substance of his music spans the playful joys of
everyday life and the fiery inclinations of love, to the deepest questions
about man’s spiritual existence. With an
ear for melodies that stay, DeFriese layers rock beats and creative
instrumentals to yield an energetic and lyrical product.
Born into a musical family from the desert southwest of
Phoenix, Arizona, Rob DeFriese began performing before the age of four and
songwriting at age fifteen. Trained
(formally) as a vocalist, Rob is also a bassist and guitarist, and has been
performing on those instruments for over thirty years. He more recently
re-introduced the piano and trumpet to his instrument portfolio.
In 1989, he joined the Phoenix-based, original Alternative Rock trio, Ant Farm, which produced four EPs and albums with many songs by DeFriese. After moving to Atlanta, Georgia in 2003, Rob helped form the Atlanta Unity Musician’s Guild, which he eventually led until 2013. The Guild performed numerous inspirational originals by DeFriese. He was also a vocalist (both lead and backup) and bassist with The Mixx, a variety rock, pop & alternative cover band, and with The Mystery Trip, a Beatles’ music tribute band, appearing at more than 100 venues.
He currently lives, writes, performs, and teaches private music lessons in Phoenix, AZ. He's now reunited with Ant Farm, and is a bassist/vocalist for JC & The Rockers, a Phoenix-based Blues & Classic Rock band playing mostly cover songs. He recently completed a solo album, "Altitude," and will soon release another album with Ant Farm.
His goals are to record and perform his original music, write for commercial purposes (movies, television, and advertising), and create songs for other artists to perform.
