Holding true to the 2Pac classic, Rico CheckUp is The Rose That Grew From The Concrete.  As he will tell you, “Don’t ask me why, ask me how.” In his debut mixtape, “Out The Gym First Quarter” Rico takes you on a melodic journey detailing how he overcame the harsh conditions in which he was raised. His competitive and prolific lyrics carry you at just the right speed.  With 808s and bell chimes as his passenger, Rico’s lyrics describe the tenacity it takes to make something out of nothing.

Inheriting a love of soulful records (Lenny Williams) from his mother, and controversial hip hop (2Pac and the Hot Boyz) from his older brothers, Rico CheckUp quickly found his identity in music. Like many young boys before him, Rico dreamed of becoming an NBA star. His hoop dreams were cut short when he went to jail on the day of his high school basketball tryouts. While incarcerated, he began to realize his passion and talent for writing music. Upon his release, life didn’t improve. Music became his outlet and source of strength.

Rico CheckUp’s genre of music is rap and hip hop; however, some R & B influences can be heard with songs like “Diamonds & Roses”. Rico’s self-produced mixtape sounds ready for action. He has most recently been focused on promoting his current mixtape, “Out the Gym First Quarter”. As well as establishing his record label, Made 4 Real Music Group.  Rico CheckUp is ready to take his talents nationwide, with his most recent performance at Club 224 in Atlanta, GA.
