HipHopDX Premiere: Hailing from Jackson, Mississippi, pint-size rapper Rene Brown returns to the scene with a Nick Rodriguez-directed video for her Mr. Woovie-produced single, “Savage.” In a March 2016 interview with DX, Brown explained went went into the creation of the song.

“I had a lot of fun with this track and just kept it honest to myself,” Brown said. “I got the production from the Mr. Woovie in the UK, sat in the studio and just zoned out—with all the party favors mentioned in the hook [laughs]. I wrote, tracked and mixed it myself the same night. My quickest records are usually my truest. My inspiration was really just feeling like everything I’ve done up until now has been a warm up and I have a point to prove now. I’m more focused than I’ve ever been so for me, this marks the beginning of me not letting up.”

Brown was featured as an opening act on the Top Dawg’s Oxymoron Tour alongside Schoolboy Q, Isaiah Rashad, Vince Staples and Audio Push, which really solidified her relationship with TDE. Watch the new video above. - HiphopDX

A3C ended last week, yet we still have the joyful noise of quality hip-hop ringing in our ears.

The best thing about a good music festival is leaving with a playlist full of new tunes! A3C is the biggest breeding ground for new talent and the 12th annual edition of the festival brought out some of the best rising acts Atlanta's ever seen. While some fall into an abyss of forgotten dreams, others manage to rise above the mediocrity surrounding them, proving to the rap game that they're here to stay.

With our staff running from stage to stage to find out who's got what it takes to be considered a major MC, it's only fair that we highlight a few up and coming talents with promising careers. This is more than a list of rappers who can rhyme --- these hip-hop hopefuls have the look, sound, and attitude it takes to be the next big thing.

From a short, bossy badass rocking designer jeans to a quirky, four-eyed 18-year-old from Kentucky, each one of these show-stoppers brings a little something different to the table. Living in L.A., Rene Brown can always look forward to the authenticity of ATL culture. "I actually flew to Atlanta just to record my last 2 EP’s," she said in an interview. "I love the energy I feel like I can only get there. I spent a few extra days in the city following A3C this year to hit the studio and make sure this upcoming project has some ATL vibes!"

Pinned up against all odds, Rene loves the way it feels to make major moves as a female MC. "There's still so much to be done and so many things to accomplish on behalf of female artists," she says. "I always look forward to kicking down those doors and breaking down those walls. Its a very exciting time!" - A3C

Female emcees are on the come up, and it's time to take notice before it's too late. The amount of talent coming out of the scene is sometimes unnoticed, but some of these artists will be the next one to blow. The Future Is Female Showcase only gave us a preview of who's up next.

529 in East Atlanta Village hosted the showcase on their live stage. The crowd was small, but the talent was high. Emcees Yani Mo and Rene Brown came to show out and put on a great show despite the size of the audience. 529 provided an intimate, smoker friendly setting that was appropriate for these performers.

Songstress Yani Mo gave the audience a few things to think about through her spoken word. She had a sort of neo-soul vibe mixed with a poet’s flow. Her performance included live instrumentation with a mixture of rapping and singing.

From the drums to the sax and slow walking bass line, her music had a nice, full world sound. She had a wide range of style, from Hip-hop and R&B with a touch of Jazz. Her set was appropriate for snaps and head nods.

Rene Brown was up next, and while her DJ/manager was setting up her sound, she wasted no time getting the party started. Her “Nobody for President” tee got the crowd chatting as she pulled out two joints and passed them to the audience and a shot to the audience. She started her set by spitting her bars acapella, and got the crowd super turnt. As she started spitting, the people from the other room poured in to see what they were missing.

Her personality couldn’t be matched, it was imminent that she was a savage. She connected with the audience in a way many artists cannot. From her rhymes to her stage presence, there wasn’t a person in the room that didn’t seem impressed. Her Southern influence mixed with a Cali flow, it’s only a matter of time before she blows. Brown recently toured with Schoolboy Q across the West Coast and overseas. When asked about the making of the track, Rene stated:

Los Angeles rapper Rene Brown recorded her first track entitled “Home” on her laptop and Skype headset while deployed on a 15-month tour in Afghanistan, and in the past year or so, she’s toured continents with Schoolboy Q and released a solid debut EP, “Keep To Myself.” Originally from Jackson, Miss., Brown has been writing poetry since she was 10, and you can tell in the precision of her delivery. She’s a great technical rapper, be it rapid-fire or drawn out, casual or ferocious, in the way that Eminem or Kendrick Lamar jump all over a beat and cram different amounts of words in this part of the 4-count as opposed to that part, yet you can hear everything they’re saying. She shows it off in her new track “Millions,” the first song from her forthcoming new EP, “The Wave.” It was produced by Ducko McFli, and has a live band feel over a hard beat with a soulful vibe, as Brown jumps all over this beat, splitting lines like, “Ain’t no tellin what this life lost / competition is a stain you can’t wipe off / And I’m proof, words stay true / Always playing cool, never playing by the rules / Man this shit ain’t news, I’ve been busy paying my dues,” and, “I want so many women / So much ends, the shit don’t make sense / There’s a million ways to make mills, I confess that’s just how I feel.” “The Wave” is set for release this fall. - Buzz Bands LA

Rene Brown released her Keep To Myself EP last year, which featured the motivational anthem, "Chasing Dreams," but now she's ready to release another new project. "Millions" is the first single from Brown's next offering, and features a banging instrumental from Ducko McFli, which the rapper greets with some ferocious bars.

Possibly taking a note from Drake, she elongates her syllables before packing rhymes into some tight double-time flows. She then turns her hard rap style into a mantra-like hook that will engrave itself in your brain. The track will live on her upcoming EP, The Wave, which is still without a release date, but will be available sometime this fall.

While the world is talking about Remy Ma's recent release from prison, another talented femcee has flown under the radar with one of the dopest EPs of the week. Going by the name of Rene Brown, this Los Angeles based talent has been grinding for a long time, building her buzz and gaining momentum behind her movement. The grind itself is the subject of her brand new buzz single "Chasing Dreams."

Produced by Tommy Ross, the anthemic take on the material finds Brown recounting the struggle and ultimately inspiring other up-and-comers to keep pushing.

(AllHipHop Features) Rene Brown’s journey to becoming a buzzing emcee started 7,000 miles away. While serving in Afghanistan, she used a pair of headphones and a computer software program to record her first song – a track called “Home.”
Brown decided to upload “Home” to Myspace, and the positive feedback pushed her to continue writing and recording more music. Once she finished her four-year commitment to the military, the Mississippi native moved to Los Angeles, studied audio engineering, and dived head first into her career as a rapper.
That drive eventually led to an opening slot on Schoolboy Q’s “Oxymoron World Tour,” sharing a bill with the Black Hippy member, Isaiah Rashad, Vince Staples, and Audio Push. She was the only unsigned artist featured on her leg of the tour.
Brown has complimented that accomplishment with the release of her debut EP Keep To Myself. The 7-track project was produced entirely by Atlanta’s Tommy Ross and displays the young rapper’s ability to translate her personal reflections into lyrical expression.

TOP DAWG ENTERTAINMENT in Oslo! Last year I got to take pictures of TDE’s Kendrick Lamar, and it was easily one of the better American rap concerts that year. Now the rest of his crew are starting to get some hype over here in Europe, and luckily for us, two more TDE soldiers showcased their craft in Oslo, Norway. This time around it was Mr. Man of The Year, Schoolboy Q & Isaiah Rashad. To warm up for them, they had the female rapper Rene Brown. It was a very good event. Rene Brown came out with a lot of energy, and the crowd felt it. It became even more turnt up when Isaiah Rashad did his thing. And you already know it went mayhem when Groovy Q hit the stage. I’ve never seen so many bucket hats at the same time in Oslo before. It’s also been a while since I’ve seen so many drinks being thrown all over the place, because of people getting so amped. A miracle that there was no fights in the audience. The light technician had to hide under a towel, because of all the drinks flying around. It was all good, and I was surprised when I saw all these youngins rapping all of Schoolboy’s lyrics. Very nice. Hopefully I get to catch him again this summer, when he comes back! ScHoolboy Q has been going hard since the release of his third album, “Oxymoron,” and is showing no signs of slowing down.
On Sunday night, Q showed his hometown just how dedicated he is to his fans when he performed two back-to-back shows at Club Nokia after being hospitalized for exhaustion that morning. Although visibly fatigued, Q put on one hell of a show. The second concert began at 11:00 p.m. and was full of surprises until it ended at 2:30 a.m.

ScHoolboy Q had some time to rest in between shows, as his much anticipated opening acts took the stage. First up was a female rapper from Los Angeles named Rene Brown. The talented artist ripped the stage and gained a ton of new fans by the end of her set.

She passed the mic to The Bay’s own Audio Push, who performed hits from their mixtape “Come As You Are.” Oktane and Pricetag brought out their producer Hit-Boy to perform “These N****s” before closing their set with “Shine.”

Long Beach native Vince Staples took the stage next. The hilarious rapper did his best at hyping the crowd up but was disappointed by the lack of enthusiasm in the audience. Screams came from the crowd when T.D.E.’s Isaiah Rashad took to the stage to perform songs like “Ronnie Drake” and “Webbie Flow (U Like)” from his "Cilvia Demo." The crowd went crazy when Isaiah Rashad’s adorable little brothers joined the stage along with T.D.E.’s Jay Rock to perform the “Shot You Down Remix.” - NeonTommy
