Performer. Workshop presenter. Cultural lecturer. Family shows & Grown Folk Concerts (with audience participation).

Known to her audiences as "Water Woman," Iya Imakhu is an engaging artist who marches to her own drum in more ways than one. She is a powerful percussionist, vocalist, dancer, storyteller, and spoken word artist. Iya Imakhu's music, which she calls "Afrohemian Folk Fusion," is a blend of eclectic world and traditional folk with occasional soft rock and goth influences. Iya Imakhu has set a new standard because her hauntingly earthy, yet etheric sound is uniquely her own. Iya's recordings feature her own musical arrangements showcasing multiple overlays of harmonies and rhythms. Her music also reflects her free spirited independence - she plays all instruments, sings all vocals, arranges and records all songs. As a wordsmith, Iya Imakhu is a master storyteller and spoken word artist.
An informative, popular cultural lecturer,Queen Mother Imakhu has enlightened audiences in the U.S. and Canada.
