"Q & A SESSION, BIRMINGHAM’S Q DOT DAVIS STARTING CAREER OFF POSITIVELY"

It seems as if Birmingham will have a star on the rise. Not a local star, but one whose name the country will know.

Quincy Davis, who goes by Q Dot Davis, is definitely on the rise. Opening for Curren$y, Waka Flocka Flame, Kevin Gates, Ace Hood, Nappy Roots, 3 6 Mafia, it is obvious that Davis is on his way to the top.

“It’s cool to connect with artists that I’ve grown up on,” Davis told the Birmingham Times, “and I get to share the stage with them on the same night, it’s cool.”

Davis has performed at A3C Festival, Atlanta’s version of SXSW.

How did you get started with music?: I’ve been on the promotional side of it for about 12 years now. It started out with just clubs, and with that I would run across artists that they would bring to the clubs and I’d stick around to meet them. I had a interest in it. After I got done with college football (at Cumberland University and MInot University in North Dakota) I moved back to Birmingham and started recording. I started mingling with those crowds again, and I kind of fell into it. It wasn’t something I did as a child, but it’s something i grew to love.

What inspires you musically?: Life. It is such a relief to just get on a track and express things that are going on that you might not want to talk about with anybody, but you go on a beat and express it. It’s the ultimate relief to let it out. Life definitely inspires all the work I do.

If you had to pick another passion other than music, what would it be?: I like to connect people, so I’d be in some area of business that would allow me to connect people.

So if you weren’t doing music, what would you be doing?: I’d probably still be doing sports. I also played baseball, and at one point I held the state record for number of stolen bases. So I always thought I’d get back into baseball, but music is going well for me.

Why do you think music is important?: One thing it does is connects people and emotions. If I’m in a bad mood, I find a song that might bring back that mood that I’m looking for. No one can say that’s not true.

What is the most important instrument to you?: The Drums. It’s what i listen to for a beat.

How would you say football and music are similar?: There’s always going to be competition to be in the “top spot.” You have to be focus on what you’re doing to get to a higher level.

Who are some of the local artists you have worked with?: IV Profen and Shaquille DeAndre. They’re on my LOE label, Loyalty Over Everything, and I’ve also worked with a good friend of mine, Benjamin Jonez, 3SE is also a label here in town.

What is your favorite piece of work that you have done?: My first song put on iTunes. it was about real life stuff that happened to me. i was able to create something that people related to. It’s called, “Thought We Was Gon Ride.”

How would you describe your music?: It is rap, if you have to put a label on it, but i like to blend all types of music. I don’t really corner it into a genre.

So where can people find your work? They can find me on social media, of course. They can also find me on Reverbnation.com/qdotdavis

"ThisIs50 Exclusive Interview: Q Dot Davis"

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW:

What is your name and what city do you rep?

My Name is Q Dot Davis. I rep Birmingham,AL

205 Stand Up!

What is unique about you and your music?

A unique thing about me is I was on the promotional side of music for over 10 years before writing my first song or performing my first show. My music is unique because I “stay in my lane" I don't copy a sound and all my lyrics are facts and real experiences.

What shaped your music?

My music was shaped by my short-lived childhood and having to grow up fast in many ways. My music tells my story.

When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?

From the time I stepped on stage at my first major show, opening up for Ace Hood in front of a sold out crowd in my hometown in December 2012. I was addicted!

What type of music do you listen to?

Honestly I listen to all genres from Country to Hip Hop and all subgenres in between. I'm a fan of good music. PERIOD

Who, to you, is the most undervalued music artist?

Ryan Leslie….Smart, relevant, and innovative. He inspires me.

How do you prepare for your performances?

Honestly,I don't. I keep myself mentally, but physically I let the mood take control once I hit the stage.

What ignites your (song) writing flow?

May sound funny, but just driving around. The sound of the engine and the tires on the road bring out the best concepts and rhythms in me.

What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?

I am music consultant, talent scout, and talent buyer for venues regionally. I take pride in that and love to help upcoming artists grow. I also enjoy being a father to my 5 year old son, Malakai.

Success to you is…

Enjoying what you do and making it lucrative.

What do you wish you were told when you first started rapping that you think would help anyone recently starting artists out?

Your network is your networth and everyone can't come with you!

Any upcoming projects?

Y.O.L.O Volume 2 just to get some new new out for the fans and 2 R.E.A.L, my second installment of my “Realize Everyone Aint Loyal” mixtape series is gonna be epic! My Q Dot Davis and Friends tour kicks off April 1. I will have old and new music available on the road.

"Q Dot Davis – R.E.A.L."

Q Dot Davis is a young musical entrepreneur who realized in the beginning stages you need to be well rounded in the game. Q Dot started grasping business through travels and situations that forced the young man to adapt.

Q Dot Davis Promotion and Entertainment has built respect amongst the major independent labels, working with the Slumerican camp and artists such as Big Henry and Shawty Fatt. Q Dot is also an amazing musician with extreme talent. All these talents are skills that the young man has worked hard on and he prides himself on the quality of his product. He states that the love of music and promoting great music started at the age of 15 years old.

11745954_936815626380458_4176556088336057890_n

The Birmingham native would not really kick in the music production door until he started moving around. Q Dot became adjusted to the life on the road when he started playing college football. These structures brought the young man from the south in contact with people from everywhere and the learning experiences would become a crucial platform he would use to build his musical empire. While in North Dakota of all places, Q Dot and a good friend would release their first song which began getting airplay and support. This was the moment that Q Dot Davis the MC was truly born. We talked about the album “R.E.A.L.” which stands for “Realize Everybody Ain’t Loyal”.

I told him the title had me before I even listened to it. Then after listening to it, I am instantly a fan. Q Dot is working on a sequel to this great album, so expect to see “R.E.A.L. 2” coming out soon. I asked him what should we expect from the next album and was pretty shocked to hear, we are bringing some of the old school back. The people and sounds are going to bring back that old school hip hop flavor and I am very excited to see what Q Dot has in store for us. Working with Chuck D & Mr. Pete of 3 Stacks Entertainment on the album, is the only real details I can give. In the same words Q Dot stated, just be prepared.

With great achievements in music promotions, opening for huge acts including; Waka Flocka Flame, Ace Hood, Kevin Gates, Ying Yang Twins, Rittz, Three 6 Mafia, Almost Kings, Nappy Roots, Joker Too Cold, Alfred Banks, Pell, Scotty ATL and Tech N9ne on the Independent Powerhouse Tour in 2013.Along with putting out great music like “R.E.A.L.” you may want to prepare for what this young man has coming next.

I would like to thank JimBo of Slumerican Street Team for making this interview possible and linking me with a great musician that holds the same qualities as me. The grind till you shine mentality is tough when you face obstacles from all angles, but Q Dot Davis is a great example of positivity and hard work bringing success. Make sure you follow him on the links below and download all his music, you will be glad you did.

"Artist Spotlight: Q Dot Davis"

I’ve been working with Birmingham rapper Q Dot Davis since the Summer of 2014. In less than two years, I can say that his lyrics have evolved from rapping about “making classic” music to living a life that “classic music” is made of.

Unlike a lot of new artists, Davis entered the rap game, clearly embracing the business aspects first.

Self- handling an enormous amount of his business affairs, while negotiating deals with a number of concert promoters throughout the southeast, Davis is probably the epitome of the #NoHandOut concept. Q Dot is constantly on his grind.

Respected in the industry, a number of local acts have hired Davis as a manager and a promoter. Record labels have even hired him to help with artist development

Since dropping his first tape in 2012, Davis has had to grind and hustle like any other artist. Despite obstacles, Davis continues to persevere and defy the odds set on him by haters. Effectively building relationships along the way, Davis has earned respect among a number of club and concert promoters in the Magic City.

Four years ago, could Q Dot Davis have predicted that he would’ve opened up for several chart-topping acts like Academy Award Winners Three 6 Mafia, BET Hip Hop Award Winner Waka Flocka, the infamous Kevin Gates and the ATL bad boys who helped ladies realize they could #twerk for a career, the Ying Yang Twins? Probably not! But when you’re as driven as he is, it’s hard to block him from success.

The usually high energy #RedBull rapper proudly represented the Magic City during the #NoHandOutTour.

As my friend and ally in the industry, I want to say to Q Dot, keep your head up, keep #grinding and #puttinginthework. You’ve built your career from the ground up. No one can take that from you. The #NoHandOut Tour is a moment for the history books. - AndreJThomas.com

"Waka Flocka Flame and Q Dot Davis Sold Out Show at Zydeco"

When I got to the club, I saw a long line of mostly white college kids #turnt to the max and eagerly awaiting to party with the Love & Hip Hop Star. After finally getting past the long line of patrons, I was even more shocked to see that inside the club and seeing more eager fans.

They were packed in like sardines (literally).

I’ve been to club Zydeco several times and I must admit, Waka Flocka Flame was clearly a #birmingham favorite.

"Rittz, Tuki Carter, Raz Simone, & QDot Davis @ Iron City"

Q DOT Davis featuring SQUIDMOB x LOE are hometown artists that have a strong dedication to succeed together. When I first entered the backstage area to meet Davis and SQUIDMOB x LOE, they were engaged in a word of prayer. This was a symbol of their solidarity.

Afterwards, I really liked the organization of the team. It appears that each person understood their roles and the fact that they had to be on point to make this a success. QDOT & SQUIDMOB x LOE are definitely an underrated group of artists that I believe will be the group to compete with in the Fall. - AndreJThomas.com

"IAA SPOTLIGHT: GET TO KNOW – Q DOT DAVIS – ALABAMA’S HOTTEST STAR"

IAA: What city and state you are from?

Q DOT DAVIS: I am from Birmingham, AL but throughout college I lived in Nashville, TN, Minot, North Dakota, and even spent time in Canada.

IAA: What is your musical background?

Q DOT DAVIS: I have a firm foundation in music. I grew up singing in my family’s church choir and my granddad, Andrew Davis, was an amazing gospel singer. He and my Uncle had a gospel group in his younger days. I guess I inherited the music gene in my family. I played snare drum in middle school. I also sang in the choir throughout middle and high school and was a part of a bell choir. Music has always been a part of my life and I am passionate about it.

IAA: What inspired you to pursue music?

Q DOT DAVIS: I had been working on promotional teams for clubs since age 16. I continued that through college until I ended up in the small town of Minot, ND, where there are not many clubs to continue that at. While I was there in football camp, one of my favorite aunts died, Fannie Posey, and I was not able to make it back to Alabama for her funeral. I was depressed about being so far from family and losing a close family member and began to write and record to express my emotions. I recorded a song called “Why Must We Live This Life So Hard” on a web cam computer mic and with a free version of Audacity recording software. The quality was not the best but it painted a picture of my life, how I felt about it and how I felt about the death of both my aunt and my grandfather that had died when I was 11. I developed a sound and a love for composing and recording and the rest is history in the making…stay tuned!

IAA: What are your songs about?

Q DOT DAVIS: Everything. My songs are inspired by any and everything around me. A certain beat could inspire a certain subject to surface on my brain or I could just choose a subject and make the song tell a story that I have experienced. I like to tell stories and paint perfect pictures of events I was present for and make people feel as if they were right there with me.

IAA: Do you write your own music?

Q DOT DAVIS: Yes, I write all of my material myself. I take mental notes of phrases I hear that are catchy, information I find to be interesting, and my personal thoughts and perfectly mix all those to create the lyrical content that has separated me from your average “rapper” and that my fans love.

IAA: Who are your musical influences?

Q DOT DAVIS: I have a lot because I listen to all genres of music. I feel it helps me be more well-rounded as an entertainer. My influences include Chris Brown, Maroon 5, Jason Aldean, Kanye West, Stuey Rock, Big Sean,Trill Fam,Wiz Khalifa, Future, and Drake.

IAA: How would you describe your music to people?

Q DOT DAVIS: Original. Attention grabbing. Timeless. I can’t say that my music is any particular genre, so that makes it original. I like to make people “feel the music,” that makes it attention grabbing, and I like to keep an old sound of good music and tweak it to make it fit what’s in style, so it’s timeless.

IAA: What makes you stand out from other artists?

Q DOT DAVIS: My whole personality and drive surpasses even my hardest working friends in the industry. I have individual goals and my techniques to achieve them are always original. I also have a sound that captures many genres all at once.

IAA: What are some upcoming projects you are currently working on?

Q DOT DAVIS: I am always working on many projects at a time. I am re-releasing my February 2012 mix-tape, “Amongst The Stars,” with bonus tracks. I am working on an untitled collaboration mix-tape with one of my business partners, Rayne Chemyst. I am also finishing up tracks for my upcoming solo mix-tape ,“#YOLO the Mixtape”. There’s always a lot going on but I love it!

IAA: What are your career goals? Where do you see your self in 10 years?

Q DOT DAVIS: My goals are to transition into a world-wide entertainer, not just a recording artist and promoter. I want to do movies, TV, commercials, and print modeling on top of what I already do. In 10 years I want to have a very established career. I hope to start a program to help people that want to make it in the industry, a program that leads them in the right direction to achieve the dreams they can only imagine.

IAA: How can your fans access your music and contact you?
