Bio

Michael Morrow began playing professionally in 1988 after relocating to Philadelphia from hometown of Ocean City,NJ. Michael played with shore bands like Person-L and The Look, before an arranged audition with hit maker Robert Hazard. Labeled as "...too Bluesy..." Michael was more welcome in bands like Mustangs, Modern Beatnik, Scarlet Fire, and touring jam bands Slide, and Brother Thump. He worked extensively in studio recording, making two records with Grammy winning producer David Ivory (Roots, Eryka Badu), working at Sigma Sound and Kajem/Victory. In 1994, Michael won the NARAS award "Best Funk Band" and played live on MTV for the National Snowboarding Championships in Stratton,Vermont, performed Delaware's Blue Rocks stadium with Toadies and Goldfinger, and performed a concert tribute to Jerry Garcia at Wiggins Park Ampitheater, to a mournful crowd of 5,000. Michael also worked live production teams for Ron Delsner Presents, working on concerts with Allman Brothers Band, Phish, Blues Traveler, Ziggy Marley and Lollapalooza featuring Cypress Hill,

In 1997, after a brief hiatus, Michael joined the reformed Living Earth (Relix), leading the band out of dormancy and setting the stage for much GD work to come. With uncanny reproductions of the voice and guitar work of Jerry Garcia, it was during this period that Michael would perfect his Dead chops. With a solid resume in "Grateful" music and word of mouth notoriety around the US, Michael was soon being considered for "short list" spots in touring acts like Jerry Garcia Band and Dark Star Orchestra, who in 2005, called him "the best singer we auditioned..." JGB bandleader Melvin Seals called him personally, even flying Michael to St.Louis for an audition. When not "Truckin'"around playing Dead tunes, Michael has also found time to tour with Reggae acts like Jah Witness, Mystic Rebel, Junior Marvin, I 'n I Arkestra, Earl "Chinna" Smith, Pato Banton, Fully Fullwood and Tony Chin, appearing at major festivals including headlining shows at Musefest Ithaca NY, Wormtown Festival, twice at Bethlehem Musikfest. Over the past decade, Michael has performed with artists like Bob Weir, David Grisman, Merl Saunders, David Nelson, Tom Constantin, Keller Williams, Toni Brown Band, Pete Seeger, Leo Kotke, John Jorgensen, Tony Trishka, Kingfish, Donna Jean Godschaux, David Gans, Ryan Montbleau Band, New Riders Of The Purple Sage, Jeff Buckley, Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks, Steve Kimock, Mark Karan, Dave Matthews Band, Ben Harper, Joan Osbourne, Jimmy Buffet and Peter Himmelman.

In October 2009, Michael did a West Coast tour featuring performances on Marin County's KXYX radio, Yoshi's Jazz Club and most notably the 40th Anniversary of Woodstock concert in San Francisco at Golden Gate Park, a huge free event produced by original 1969 promoter Artie Kornfeld, where MM appeared alongside Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek, Leon Hendrix, War, Chambers Brothers, Steve Martin, Country Joe and many more. MM also jammed with SF vocalist Pamela Parker, who later invited him to play with her at Gratefulfest 10 at Nelson Ledges Quarry Park. and to record on the 2009 N.O.W.Compilation CD. Michael has spent the last few years producing recordings including "Groove" for the 2008 Indie Award winning film "No Boundaries" starring Mark McGraw, demo recordings for Americal Idol finalist Lindsey Kulp and a CD project with Funk Church. Morrow also played live with PA Dead tributes Nine Finger Saloon, Splintered Sunlight, Good Lovin' Jamband, Double Dose and Steal Your Face, with whom Michael performed well over 100 shows until leaving the group in 2011. When he is not busy with PURE JERRY, he is a dedicated father, teacher, dog trainer, martial artist and in 2013, he will serve as Production Manager for the CoatesPhila Festival in suburban Phila.
