On Saturday April 30th, at Smiler Coogan's on Chicago's northwest side, 4 local Chicago bands got together to put on a kick-ass metal show (with a hint of punk!) Presented by Rebel Radio in conjunction with the venue, the 4 band line-up easily caught my eye, since I had previously reviewed works from members of 3 of the 4 bands, and only missed seeing the 4th band previously because I was out-of-state during Dame-Nation 2012. This was an excellent opportunity to see 4 bands at once, all of which I had interest in covering...
[The second band of the night] was Proudest Angel, a band featuring 2 members from Sutured Psyche, another band I've reviewed here before.
Although they are working on new material to be released soon, they are actually a re-tooled version of the band, and had recorded a couple EP's from 2000-2002. Their set featured mostly material from those early recordings plus a couple new ones. Their best number in my opinion was 'Whole Again', also available to hear in a youtube video...

Bio
Proudest Angel's story started in much the same way as a lot of bands: in a Chicago garage, with four high school kids in the late 90s determined to make noise and book the basements of the biggest Mexican restaurants and bowling alleys that would have them. Things were fun for a few years before everyone moved on and went their separate ways. Ten years later, however (and potentially a little wiser), they got the band back together. Original members John Raftree, David Bates (Sinister Fate), and Doktor Paimon (Sutured Psyche) were joined by Ryan Reilly (Sutured Psyche) on a lark to see if the old material was still fun to play. Six months and a few beers later, Proudest Angel is once again booking shows and turning out new material, though they've moved up from packing storage spaces to packing bars. Combining hard rock, heavy metal, and a willingness to follow any genre into a dark alley to mug it for useful parts, Proudest Angel brings an aggressive, energetic, engaging live show.
