"Porcelain Pale’s Alma Martyr Is An Atmospheric Journey Into Your Own Head"

Sometimes I just need to float away and get lost in my own head.
If you’re like me, the latest release from Porcelain Pale is just the ride to take you there.
The acceleration picks up speed quickly, launching from gossamer strings of golden piano before the steady hum of the engine is fully felt.

Out the window and inside your head clouds begin to gather. As you float from one white ball of vapor to the next, the world outside – black clouds and all – dissipates.

You’re left floating in the cerebral atmosphere, just you and the clouds.

Blending atmospheric surrealism with infectious grooves and analog tones, “Alma Martyr” is a climatic piece of experimental pop rock that drops you off far from where you started.

Porcelain Pale counts Radiohead, Atoms For Peace, and Joy Division, among their influences. It’s evident in the stadium-sized vocals and driving guitar and rhythm that Porcelain Pale are setting their musical sights high, and delivering to effect. - The Sights and Sounds

"Porcelain Pale with a moving single 'Alma Martyr'"

Experimental pop band out of La Puente, Porcelain Pale, have a truly unique and refined sound, blending elements of progressive rock, experimental electronic, and new wave into an explosion of sonic atmosphere. The singer's powerful voice soars over the sweeping analog soundscapes and driving drum grooves with moving melodies and memorable lyrics. Everything is polished and in its place, and when the band is ready to release the tension, the impact is incredible. Porcelain Pale credit the influence of legendary experimental bands such as Radiohead, Atoms For Peace, and Joy Division for their uniquely modern experimental sound. This is a truly moving piece of music that you do not want to miss. - Gems & Secrets

"Ears Wide Open: Porcelain Pale"

Experimental electronic music trio Porcelain Pale live in a world of seemingly conflicting urges — introspect/project, advance/retreat, unsettle/comfort. They got their start in La Puente as the bedroom project of Andy Rayner, who soon joined up with pals Adrian Arroyo and Roger Lopez, and in 2016 released their debut EP, “Aurelia.” After linking up with CupaDella Records, Porcelain Pale recently released the new single “Yesterday’s Tomorrow,” a positively Yorke-ian tapestry of warm synths and beats and emotive vocals that unfolds like some lost memory, recovered during hypnosis. Impressive. - Buzzbands.la

"Discover: Porcelain Pale ‘Owls’"

Porcelain Pale, three-piece, synth-based band from Los Angeles, showcase their latest single, “Owls,” off their forthcoming EP, set to be released this fall through AndFam Collective. The track’s role goes into more than a single, but as a reintroduction of sounds, this being their first release in almost two years. Andy Rayner (vocals, keys), Adrian Arroyo (vocals, keys), and Roger Lopez (pads and percussion), revive their craft, and create a funky state of dream-pop that is the soundtrack of cruising through the cosmos.

The weight between dreaminess and structure heard on “Owls” is constructed with care, including support from great bass lines, and possibly one of the most catchiest synth riff. Ultimately, the overall sound sets a definite mood, similar to a calming thought heard through the cracks of a mind. Structurally composed with the right amount of funk heard on guitar, and percussion, to anchor the airy synths and dreamy vocals from getting lost.

Porcelain Pale should be a band on your radar for the near future, and you can catch them at Homie Fest, September 5th, alongside other great bands, in Baldwin Park. - Girl Underground

"PORCELAIN PALE - INSOMNIA MIXTAPE VOL.1"

Porcelain Pale brings us this album which is somewhat like being half-awake, or the experience of lucid dreaming; hence the name Insomnia Mixtape Vol.1. Every song has stretched-out beats and like-minded lingering vocals to go along with it. It fits into the experimental indie alternative genre as it can be compared to artists like Porcelain Raft, The Knife, and Thieves Like Us. The overall sound is new-age, but it is tinged with the old school 90’s electronic vibe. The overall tone is somewhat vintage which gives the album character.

Each song has its own melody to get lost in as it paints an interesting landscape that both the ethereal body and the emotional mind can explore. The song “Forever’s Never Enough” has a hypnotic tune that just keeps you entranced by the beat, then the lyrics paint a picture of optimistic sorrow. The first track on the album, “Rapid Eyes and Restless Minds,” also has a bit of a sorrow-filled sentiment which focuses on lost trust and being a hopeless romantic. The keys of the track maintain a positive view as the guitar reminds one of the not-so-beautiful misfortunes of love.

Continuing to listen to the album becomes a big blurry transcendental journey through dreamy emotions. The track “The Girl Without A Shadow” has a beautiful glittery-like anchoring key and the vocalist goes on singing with an elongated breath. This album is not necessarily a “pick-me-up” type of album, but it definitely has the capacity to insight optimism and creativity as the songs explore and resolve many topics apparent in life. The overall feel is also very relaxing and chill which can elevate anyone’s mood. The album is well produced and a listener can feel the genuine creativity and time put into every piece on the album. It is most definitely a great collection of songs to listen to when one is suffering from insomnia. - The Equal Ground

"Porcelain Pale – “Rapid Eyes and Restless Minds”"

California-based duo Porcelain Pale concoct gauzy waves of lush electro-pop, reminiscent of Twin Shadow’s starry-eyed dramatic tribute to the ’80s niche. Porcelain Pale self-produced their debut release, Insomnia Mixtape Vol. 1, and its lo-fi but stunningly atmospheric sound is wholly representative of quality bedroom pop — without the mundanity. “We both came from a crappy part of California that is basically spermicide for creative types,” one half of the duo, Andy Carrillo, says. “We were in a lot of really crappy bands and sort of randomly got together last October, bought a bunch of random stuff from Craigslist, and just sort of locked ourselves in a room and started writing until we had something we liked listening to.”

The result is a tidy showing of Porcelain Pale’s nocturnal prowess, whether on the glistening arpeggios of “Agoraphobic Winter Blues” or the woozy spacey crawl “Imaginary Drifter”. The opener, “Rapid Eyes and Restless Minds”, serves as a proper introduction. Porcelain Pale initially start with a nonchalant drum loops and a placid bass line, as the weeping vocals ascend in emotion over re-occurring spurts of guitar. The production may not be as sharp as Chromatics or Twin Shadow, but Porcelain Pale have a similar grasp of the approach. Once their production catches up with their ability to churn out haunting atmospheres, Porcelain Pale could be making big noise. - Obscure Sound

"Porcelain Pale develop as a band and in sound on their latest release "Alma Martyr.""

Straying away from a diluted, hazy sound, Porcelain Pale returns with a refreshing single to add to their discography. “Alma Martyr“, via CupaDella Records, takes the La Puente-based band to a more serious platform than previously heard. Connecting an internal struggle with an ambient release, “Alma Martyr” descends from various elements into an overall cohesive sound.

“The past few years have been a huge lesson that I feel I’ve graduated from. However, in the process, I had to sacrifice my happiness, my family, and my ego in order to move forward,” explains frontman, Andy Rayner. On the note of moving forward, it is obvious that the band have developed themselves, now becoming a four-piece with the latest addition of Maxx Diaz on bass who eloquently provides a fuller sound.

Through the track’s tight precision and trickles of experimentation, Porcelain Pale have found a balance within these sounds. “Alma Martyr” relies more on Rayner’s vocals and Roger Lopez’s drumming in the first half of the track until the collective bursts by the seam’s, heard on the sensory break of keys provided by Adrian Arroyo. - Girl Underground Music
