Tonight’s show was a Polarity show in that it was a fundraiser to cover costs for their upcoming album. What a brilliant idea – throw a rock n roll party and use the proceeds to work on your new project. The economic reality of upcoming rock bands is pretty stark but the spirit of rock beats strong in Polarity. They stormed the stage with an intensity of a typhoon and the energy did not dissipate until well after their set. Polarity delivers a diverse sound that borders on heavy metal (but not actually being metal) and prog. At times delivering complex structures like Dream Theater but with a much better vocalist (sorry not a fan of Labrie’s voice) they are a pure joy to watch on stage and many songs they are trying to get out on their record were on display – check out the video below for a highlight of the night. - TMak World
The Greater Toronto Area has produced another flawless rock band, this one being female fronted- melodic heavy rock act; Polarity.
Polarity takes the definition of “emotional rock” to a whole new level with the passionate vocal styling’s of the very talented Jasmine Virginia. Jasmine ranges from slow subtle growls and serenades to high pitched leaps. Jasmine’s vocals, paired with the bands unique and adventurous sounds; take you on an emotional roller-coaster ride that will keep you holding on right till the very end.
These guys are the kind of band that will sit alongside you in your deepest- darkest downs and then lift you up through the light as you touch and see every single feeling along the way. Their sound is honest and their lyrics are powerful.
So, of course we are telling you that they are a must see live band! Luckily for us, they will be making their way to Lee’s Palace in Toronto on December 20th, with support from Organ Thieves (Dave Brownsound, formerly Sum 41), Still Life, and Trove.
DEFINITELY make sure you listen to their tracks and check out their amazing music video for “Tug Of War” below: - The Heavy Press
MARCH 3, 2014 - The polls have closed for ROCKWIRED.COM's recent ARTIST OF THE MONTH campaign. Voters from all over the U.S. and Canada made their vote count and POLARITY is ROCKWIRED.COM's newest ARTIST OF THE MONTH. In the vast wasteland of Alternative Rock you come across thousands of bands that aren't necessarily trying to top one another but are simply holding up what has become a tired genre. Needless to say that when you happen a upon a band like POLARITY, you want to hold onto them and hope that everybody else in the world will take notice as well. Hailing from Canada, POLARITY is a six-piece band with a progressive rock approach that boasts key and rhythmic changes, curious and quirky lyrics and some rather impressive vocal gymnastics from their lead singe JASMINE VIRGINIA. So far the band has garnered some favorable press onthe strength of theri 2009 debut CD and their 2011 self-titled EP. Soon theband will be going into the studio to work on their forthcoming LP which will be helmed by producer DAVID BOTRILL. - Rockwired Magazine

POLARITY isn’t your status quo band and they have no intention to be. “We’ve always been the black sheep of the Toronto Music Scene” says guitarist Mike Sitana, “when we send our music to venues and promoters, we get responses stating that we’re either too heavy or not metal enough” he says while laughing. The band’s style of Alternative rock isn’t one Toronto’s indie music scene is used to hearing, but that didn’t stop the band from selling out their most recent back to back home shows in Toronto at the end of 2015. With the upcoming summer release of their highly-anticipated full-length album, Action Potential, the venues POLARITY will be poised to sell out will only get bigger.
The band’s music takes you on an emotional rollercoaster ride where the landscape of sounds shift from harsh and aggressive to transcendental and ethereal in seamless seconds. The vocals ooze with soul and range from vulnerable and honest to powerful and in command. The emotional charge in the music is heartfelt and honest; the band’s mission has always been to create music with substance that goes deep. “Often times people tell us they don’t only hear us but they feel us, which is a huge compliment” states the band’s vocalist, Jasmine Virginia. “We want our music to evoke emotion, because in todays fast paced world, being witness to emotion and feeling something stirring deep within your own soul is sacred”.
With the release of their most ambitious album on the horizon POLARITY is excited for what the future will bring. “We want to change the perceived notions of popular songwriting” says guitarist Jason Swait, and the band is confident Action Potential does just that. Alongside time signatures not used in traditional rock, keep an ear out for creative song structures and concepts such as those heard in opening track, Rotator, which plays as a palindrome both musically and lyrically. Action Potential already has the support of industry heavy hitters such as three-time Grammy-winning producer David Bottril, who has deemed POLARITY ‘Cinematic Rock’ and mentored the band throughout the recording of the album. It’s also received high praise from mastering legend Joao Carvalho who after mixing and mastering the album stated that Action Potential was the record he got most into while working on. “When we really think about the people who believe in our band and have helped us create this album, we have to pinch ourselves; it’ a dream come true.” says drummer Eric Zimmerman.
POLARITY has been a do-it-yourself band since their formation in 2008. Most bands they started in the scene with have all but fallen into obscurity while POLARITY is stronger than ever and getting ready to take on the world. Their perseverance and aptitude for hard work is exemplified by the hundreds of self-booked shows played across Canada, their catalogue of original music, including a 2009 album, 2011 EP, a 2012 single, and many self produced music videos with a Youtube channel showing half a million views.
