"You Heard It First: Pick Patek"

Philadelphia, PA native rapper, songwriter, and producer Pick Patek is a Hip-Hop artist all about taking risks and refusing to accept a label. Pick Patek’s passion for music started all the way back in 5th grade, and when he met friend and collaborator NxG in 2016, he began to take a career in music seriously. Through perseverance and hard work, Pick Patek released his debut project “When In Oakland” in 2018 to great acclaim, and has since released several more projects showcasing his versatility and impressive lyrical ability.

“ROBUST” is a boisterous and confident track about celebrating success and not caring what others think of you. Pick Patek is ready to drop anyone who isn’t recognizing his talent, ignoring negative energy and manifesting positive vibes into a powerful vision. For listeners looking for a catchy lyricist who makes music great for your next party playlist, definitely check out Pick Patek. - Major Stage

"Pick Patek // ADHD"

BY:
LAURA VERAS
RAPPER, SONGWRITER AND PRODUCER PICK PATEK GREETS LISTENERS WITH INCREDIBLY HOOKY MELODIES, UNEXPECTEDLY CLEVER LYRICS, AND OUTSTANDINGLY UNIQUE PRODUCTION ON HIS LATEST RELEASE ENTITLED “ADHD”. AFTER LISTENING TO THIS WAVY GENRE-BENDING SMASH, PICK PATEK IS SURE TO BE YOUR NEXT FAVORITE ALTERNATIVE HIP HOP ARTIST.

THE SONG BEGINS WITH AN ENTRANCING, HOLLOW AND REVERB FILLED MEDLEY OF SYNTHS THAT ULTIMATELY CREATE AN INTROSPECTIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR PATEK TO BEGIN SHOWCASING HIS QUICK-WITTED LYRICS. CO-PRODUCED BY @PRODOMG, THE INSTRUMENTATION DOES A PERFECT JOB OF BREATHING ENERGY INTO THE SONG, ALLOWING JUST ENOUGH ROOM FOR PATEK TO SHINE WHILE ALSO TAKING ON A LIFE OF ITS OWN. ON TOP OF THIS, THE PRODUCTION’S SOMEWHAT MELLOW NATURE CONVEYS A CONSISTENT CHILL VIBE – A NICE CONTRAST FROM PATEK’S EXCITING MELODIES AND HIGH ENERGY LYRICAL DELIVERY.

ON A VERY SURFACE LEVEL, “ADHD” TOGGLES WITH THE IDEA OF PATEK WONDERING IF HE HIMSELF HAS ADHD, AS HE CAN’T SEEM TO PROVIDE THE CONSTANT ATTENTION AND FOCUS THAT’S REQUIRED OF HIS RELATIONSHIPS AND HIS ASPIRATIONS. GOING INTO A DEEPER ANALYSIS, PATEK HIMSELF BEAUTIFULLY ARTICULATES THE ORIGIN OF THE SONG, STATING “ADHD IS ABOUT NOT TRUSTING YOURSELF. IT’S ABOUT SAYING YOU’LL DO THINGS DIFFERENTLY, SAYING YOU’LL CHANGE, MEANING IT, AND STILL FUCKING UP. THIS IS SOMETHING I’VE ALWAYS STRUGGLED WITH, AND OVER TIME I GREW TO BECOME INDIGNANT ABOUT THAT ASPECT OF ME. MY GOAL WITH THIS SONG WAS TO VILIFY THE PART OF ME THAT FAILS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY.”

ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT THE SONG IS HOW MANY DIFFERENT MELODIC IDEAS PICK PATEK PLAYS WITH THROUGHOUT THE SHORT 2 MINUTES AND 20 SECONDS. WHILE SOMETIMES THE EXECUTION OF VARIOUS IDEAS ON A SONG CAN BE OVERWHELMING TO A LISTENER, PATEK DOES A GREAT JOB OF CREATING BALANCE. HE IS ABLE TO INTRODUCE A BRAND NEW MELODY OR RHYTHMIC DELIVERY EVERY COUPLE OF BARS THAT, IN TURN, KEPT ME AS A LISTENER ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT THE ENTIRE TIME. EACH IDEA FLOWED PERFECTLY INTO THE NEXT, ULTIMATELY CREATING THIS EXCITING AND GENRE-BENDING SONG THAT I COULDN’T HAVE ADDED TO MY PLAYLIST FAST ENOUGH. - Early Rising

"Artist Feature: Pick Patek"

PLANETARY GROUP TOOK SOME TIME TO GET TO KNOW PICK PATEK…

Planetary Group: Tell us about your latest release. How did you come to create it?

Pick: Yung Wacho sent me a starter for a song, like a bare bones beat with a light structure. I took the beat, I chopped it up a little bit, added some more drums and a bass, then maybe a synth or something. It was really as simple as that: sampling what he had sent me and reimagining it.

I actually had recorded the hook in a normal voice when the beat was faster. And when I slowed down the beat, I accidentally slowed down the vocals and pitched both down. But it just ended up sounding cool, so I didn’t touch it. And I wanted it to kind of sound like it was like a vocal sample.

PG: Share a bit about your musical journey, from when you first started making music until now.

Pick: I started making music back in fifth grade. I had Garageband on my mom’s Mac, so I started recording on that. I’ve been making songs my whole life, but it was in the last three/ four years that I’ve really started to take this seriously. I went to college in Pittsburgh and then I moved to Long Beach, just south of LA, to pursue music full time.

PG: Let’s talk about the music that you love. Pick one album for each category below & tell us a bit about it!

An album you grew up listening to:
Pick: Yeezus by Kanye West. I remember they gave out Yeezus for free on Google Play. And I had just made a Google Play account, so I got the whole album for free and it was the only music I had at the time. So I just listened to it on repeat and ever since then, it was in constant rotation growing up.

An album that inspires you as an artist (I’m sure there are many, but pick one of your choosing):
Pick: It’s gotta be TESTING by A$AP Rocky.

Love it or hate it, you definitely gotta recognize… it’s very out there. It’s super, super creative. He definitely wasn’t afraid to try new things. And even if sonically I’m not taking inspiration from it, I think it was a great thing to put out and has inspired me a lot to experiment myself.

The album you currently have on repeat:
Pick: I would have to say 2 Alivë by Yeat. It’s just a different type of music… I don’t know how to explain it. It’s just different, it catches my ear different. It’s exactly what I need right now.

PG: What do you want people to take away from your music?

Pick: I want people to take away whatever they feel like. I’ve gotten some really inspiring messages where people are relating to my music in ways that I didn’t even consider when I wrote it. So I can’t say for sure what I want you to take away from listening to my music, but what I put into my music is my most authentic self. I’m very candid – the good and the bad, I really try to put all that in my music. So if you can relate to that anyway, I think you’re gonna take away something great.

What’s next up for you?

Pick: I think what’s next up for me is a whole lot more music, a whole lot more videos, maybe some shows. I’m definitely not stopping anytime soon. A lot more to come.

"Pick Patek Drops Video For "penelope""

Fresh off the release of the newest Pick Patek single “penelope”, the rising rap artist has now shared a desert-set music video for the track shot by RAI BRED Visuals.

With lyrics about “about remembering a person that used to be close to you in your life”, the music video for “penelope” is one of several to come from the album that tell an overarching story. As Pick describes it: “The music video for ‘penelope’ is one of four concept videos from the album that tell an overarching story. In ‘penelope’, I awaken stranded in the desert with nobody or nothing for miles around. After walking for some time, I come across an old TV set sitting in the middle of the desert. I walk up to it, sit down, and turn on the TV. I watch as myself and my ex-girlfriend Cece (played by Lex Meral) interact on a plain white set. I watch myself pick petals off of a flower and see Cece’s mood and feelings for me change with each petal.”

“penelope” comes from Pick Patek’s forthcoming new album – titled U CAN’T REACH ME – and shows off his unique melodic rapping style over a silky smooth hip-house beat produced by Pick himself and producer Yung Wacho. Inspired by contemporaries like KayCyy, Smino, and PinkPantheress whose styles effortlessly transcend rap, pop, RnB, and electronic music to create an intoxicating blend of all of the above, Pick Patek’s style can’t be boxed in. - Ghetto Blaster Magazine

"PICK PATEK HAS GOT US A PROBLEM WITH ‘GUAP’"

The second of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-native producer and performer Pick Patek’s collaborative singles with ProdOMG, ‘GUAP’ (Got U A Problem) shows off Patek’s more playful side with high-energy beats and a smooth, controlled lyrical flow. Lyrically, ‘GUAP’ is kicking back on haters, and defending Patek’s own lifestyle choices – it’s tongue-in-cheek, fun, and it kicks like a mule when it wants to, Patek’s delivery quickfire and machine-gun like, over subtle bass and beats. There’s elements of Kanye and Chance the Rapper in here, soft and subtle, but the track’s also got some serious bounce and groove and Patek has a sound of his own with those gentle nods to influences. It’s a cracker of a hip hop piece, and a definite for anyone who’s grown tired of having other people’s opinions forced upon them.
