Bio
Patricia Bahia Bio
Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter and ovarian cancer survivor Patricia Bahia
(pronounced ba-HEE-yah) combines elements of current pop, traditional singer-songwriter,
with soulful hints of country, and folk, to create gems of sparkling
piano-based pop songs. She blends catchy melodies with lyrics celebrating life’s
struggles and triumphs, and delivers them with a voice as smooth as a polished
stone that has been through the rock tumbler of life. Her songwriting and clear
vocals draw favorable comparisons to Aimee Mann, Sara Bareilles, Ingrid
Michaelson, and Sarah McLachlan, but Patricia Bahia cuts a singular path with a
uniquely soothing, refreshing and memorable sound that is all her own.
a full-length CD produced by Jon Hayes, mixed by Bobby Owsinski,
and mastered at the legendary Universal Mastering Studios.
The CD features an original Happy Birthday song which has
already been licensed for the end credits of an indie film.
Guest appearances on the CD include pianist David Joyce
(Natalie Cole, Burt Bacharach, Elvis Costello, Wynonna), bassist
Joe Ayoub, (Liz Phair, Enrique Iglesias), drummer Kevin Hayes
(Robert Cray) and drummer Tal Bergman (Chaka Khan, Billy Idol,
Joe Bonamassa), cellist Jessica Catron, as well as a bonus track
featuring guitarist Takeshi Akimoto (Ziggy Marley Band) and a
“Playing for Change” style children’s choir recorded in Los Angeles and Oakland.
Patricia’s debut EP "The Long Road Home" (2010) also produced by Jon Hayes,
is best described as a musical cross-country road trip.
Just as long stretches of open highway provide us with much-needed
time for reflection, the softly shifting landscape of Patricia's thoughtfully-crafted
songs allows the listener space to connect with her intelligent lyrics and
pop arrangements that range from cheerful to tender, from joyous to melancholy.
A former jazz and gospel singer, Patricia started her career as a soloist
with the acclaimed Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir--recording with Linda Ronstadt,
performing with Joan Baez, and opening for Bonnie Raitt.
Patricia discovered her “bucket list” desire to write songs
during a successful battle with ovarian cancer eleven years ago.
She credits her illness with the discovery of her songwriting voice,
and the power of music with her recovery.
"In the process of healing, I discovered my voice as a songwriter. Music was a huge part of my recovery, and
it saves my life every day," says Patricia.
Her music resonates with cancer survivors and regular folks alike, who find
inspiration, solace, and hope through her catchy melodies, expressive voice and
soulful lyrics.
Now healed, Patricia is on a mission to spread love, healing, joy and peace
through the power of words and music--and to inspire others to follow their
dreams and live artistically.
