“Tweakin” is the new recently released video from Pastel Papi — an LA native who’s getting his start in the music industry. The rapper, musician, producer, and photographer from South Central decided to pursue a music career because he believed it was the best way to express himself.
The talented artist is versatile in a plethora of ways. Not only can he write a song that expresses how he’s feeling, but he can get behind the creative direction of it as well, meaning he can plan a photoshoot and direct the visual.
That’s exactly what he did with his new visual “Tweakin.” It’s clear to see the artistic direction in the song/visual, showing what makes Pastel Papi stand out from the rest. Keep reading to learn more about him, and watch the visual for “Tweakin” below.
What ultimately inspired you to dedicate yourself to a music career?
I feel like it’s the best way to showcase all of my talents. I can write songs that express me, direct the video and do a photoshoot for it. Being a music artist allows me to be really myself.
What’s one reason you are passionate about music and what inspires you?
Sound is just so beautiful, like if to me just the sound in general is crazy. I like making noise and expressing myself through the noise. I can curate a listener’s emotions with a few notes and that’s crazy. Making people feel something through the music inspires me.
Do you have any hobbies outside of music? What do you do to stay creative?
I do a lot of stuff photography would probably be the main hobby outside of music though. I live a crazy life and adventure constantly so that helps me stay creative.
Who are some of your main musical influences?
Kanye, Pharell, Drake, Pusha T, Don Diestro. I have a lot of them just depending on the space I’m in.
What are some of your music career goals for the future?
To establish myself as a top artist and to release a music film.
What has the response been like to that project?
People were impressed with how well I can curate different sounds together. Feel like it sets the floor for what I’m doing now.
What are some projects you’ve done in the past that you are most proud of and why?
‘Closer’ would be my most proud project, the drama around the creation project and then for it to come out how it came out was amazing. That song sounds like how I want my music to feel.
What message do you hope fans take away from your music?
Accept your crazy, losses, or whatever “bad parts” of yourself and make it beautiful. I talk about my wildness a lot because I love him too lol - Rosecrans Ave
Pastel Papi is someone to keep on your radar — as a talented individual who wears many hats, he’s offering something new to the table musically. The South Central rapper, singer, producer, and photographer is starting to warm up the summer with his new single “Tweakin,” which just dropped on April 1. In the new song, Pastel Papi tells the story of someone who’s made loving them difficult. The song is a catchy vibe that anyone can blast from anywhere — especially the car.
Pastel Papi has a sound that can be described as versatile, yet distinct. He has a catalogue of previously released music that even further shows off his unique ability to blend hip-hop, R&B, pop, and trap into his own genre of music which he dubs as “trap-pop.” Although Pastel Papi is from Los Angeles, his music reflects a different side of his hometown’s music culture and sets him apart from the rest.
“[My sound] is a mix between my light and my dark side, so I mix more vibey night time vibes with my more upbeat raps,” he said in a recent interview.
While the video conveys that Pastel Papi is a creative-type of artist and that he’s capable of curating different sounds together, the visual for the single is also on the way and is set to release April 19.
“I think it’ll express my idea of the story and who Pastel Papi is and really start to introduce the film side of things,” Pastel Papi noted.

South Central LA’s Pastel Papi finally dropped the long-awaited visual for his single “Tweakin.” Pastel Papi, who goes by @icreateshit on Instagram, portrays a new side of him that audiences have yet to see. His latest visual showcases his film side, proving how Pastel Papi is not only an artist, but a creative who is full of bright ideas.
The song is about someone who has found it impossible for him or her to love someone else. The visual for “Tweakin” was shot beautifully and artistically, accompanying the lyrics to the song well.
Pastel Papi, who’s real name is Davon Lavor, is a a multi-faceted musician who grew up in deep South Central, between wealthy and poorer neighborhoods. He often traveled in and out of his neighborhood which gave him “perspective” and “early exposure to a variety of lifestyles and sounds.”
If audiences visit his Instagram page, they will see that it is a colorful collage of everything from working on the visual for Juice Wrld’s “Black & White” to attending Black Lives Matter rally with his parents.
His diverse upbringing manifested itself in his artistic life, which began in the world of film. However, it wasn’t until late 2017 that Lavor started to take music more seriously. Music’s ability to curate people’s emotions attracted him to the art form, as much as he loved–and still loves–film.
“Sound is just so beautiful, like if to me just the sound in general is crazy. I like making noise and expressing myself through the noise … Making people feel something through the music inspires me,” Lavor explained. - On Tha Rize Mag
If you haven’t heard of Pastel Papi, you’re about to.
The South Central Los Angeles-based rapper, singer, producer, and photographer (there’s more that he does, but it’s a long list) gives listeners a savory and sentimental summer vibe with his latest offering, “Closer.” The song is the introduction to Pastel Papi as a character and an artist. Formerly known as ICreateShit, the first verse is from the perspective of a player (from the voice of ICreateShit). Whereas, the second verse is written from a more introspective, romantic, and poetic stance from the voice of Pastel Papi.
Produced by Pastel Papi and frequent collaborator Don Diestro, the song contains reggae and tropical drum breakdowns that get any listeners swinging their hips. With a soothing and memorable chorus sung by Half Moon Bay, “Closer” is an absolute must-listen.
