Bio
Paper Nautilus is an experimental indie rock band from Long Island, New York. Heavily influenced by other big name Long Island acts (Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, The Sleeping), Paper Nautilus combines heavy guitar riffs with emotional and ethereal passages inspired by the unique nature that surrounds the island.
Paper Nautilus's debut EP, Above Board, was released in May of 2016. It was a snapshot of the much larger and ambitious project of a dual LP, centered on the concept of traveling the Island from western City limits to the East End, on both shorelines; hard, edgy Brooklyn to open, ambient and serene North & South forks.
Formed in the Summer of 2015, Paper Nautilus spent the season working on ideas that spanned the course of years. Beginning in early 2016, they spent the year playing various and numerous venues on Long Island, Manhattan, Brooklyn, some of which included Pine Box Rock Shop, Parkside Lounge, Don Pedro, Twisted Shamrock, and Amityville Music Hall just to name a few.
In August of 2016, Paper Nautilus took home the Grand Prize of the Montclair Records Battle of the Bands at Amityville Music Hall, and the next week they were featured at the Planet of Sound Long Island Indie Rock & Pop Music Festival in Sayville, NY. More recently, they were featured on the Indie Music Plus (IMP) weekly podcast featuring new and emerging young artists.
Paper Nautilus is comprised of Daniel Horn (drums), John Juliano (bass), Joseph Kennelly (lead guitar, vocals), & Will Holmes (rhythm guitar, vocals). All four come from a rich tapestry of musical backgrounds, but are self-taught, multi-instrumentalists and songwriters.
