"SONGS YOU SHOULD HEAR – OUTATIME! – HUSKY FIGHT!"

ARTIST: Outatime!

SONG: “Husky Fight!”

SOUNDS LIKE: Pop Punk for fans of New Found Glory, Senses Fail, State Champs

ABOUT THE TRACK: Orlando Florida Pop Punk band Outatime! has released their new single, the energetic anthem “Husky Fight!”. While the music is fast and furious, lyrically, the track deals with the serious topics of anxiety and depression, “The song is about the constant struggle with anxiety and depression that sometimes can lead to thoughts of suicide and abandonment,” explains the band, “We have all been there at times and we wanted to release the song with a message that tells whoever is experiencing these hardships that they are never alone and even though it doesn’t seem easy, it always gets better.” - High Road Publicity

"Unsigned Spotlight: Outatime!"

Outatime! brings together a nostalgic feel of the genre with riffs reminiscent of the old Drive Thru Records days, but lyrics that deal with real life situations and relatable issues.

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Tony- Drums

Justin- Guitar

Mike- Vocals

Nikk - Bass/Vocals

James- Guitar

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Outatime? How long has the band been around?

Justin: I’ve been a few! I was in a band with James from South Florida called Checkyoursix! and with Mike in Orlando called Hits Home

James: I played in a band called East Coast Drive and checkyoursix! with Justin.

Tony: I used to play drums for Send Out Scuds and 408

Nikk: I have been around the bend. But before joining I was in Broken Streetlights and Soldier City Legends.

Mike: Before moving to Florida I was in a few bands up in Maryland! Such Is Life was one of the first bands that I went in the road with and then I was in Like You To Me with a couple of close friends of mine! When I moved to Florida I joined Justin in Hits Home and then we started Outatime! from there!

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

Justin: So like most bands the name is always the hardest thing to convey! I think at the time we were all pretty bummed about Universal Studios closing the Back To The Future ride. I think Mike and I were actually at the theme park one day taking a hard style picture in front of the Delorean and it just clicked when we saw the License plate!

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

Instrumentally it usually starts with a member who has a riff or fill or lyric idea and sends it over to the rest of the band through our chat! From there we work on a few different variations, build a foundation, and demo it out 3-4 times before we start really getting into it!

Lyrically that’s usually Mike and Nikk working together on the song and determining a feel and direction for the song. From there we start having fun with word play and alliterations!

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

Tony: I wouldn’t say there’s a specific band that’s inspiring me per se, but more the desire to be a part of and create something greater than myself. To reach new heights while doing what we love most. That’s what drives me

James: I couldn’t agree more with what Tony said. Sure there are musical inspirations like State Champs, Neck Deep, New Found Glory, etc but what inspires me to make music is to be a part of an inclusive community and create a unique nostalgic sound!

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

Justin: I mean it’s definitely New Found Glory and Senses Fail for me. I remember being 14 and going to my first Warped Tour and crowd surfing for the first time to “Lady In The Blue Dress” during the Senses Fail set and just being hooked!

James: I had a similar experience like Justin’s. The moment that inspired me was seeing Set Your Goals life for the first time with New Found Glory. When I heard them live, I immediately knew I wanted to play in a band.

Nikk: warped tour 2003. Thrice, AFI, Senses Fail, MAE, and so many more.

Mike: The first time I saw New Found Glory was the moment I realized I wanted to sing in a band!

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

Tony: Well, a strong drink always helps the muscles loosen up!

Justin: I like to hydrate with a cold can of Liquid Death Mountain Water and just the usual stretches because I’m getting old.

James: It’s gonna sound lame but breathing exercises. I’m a very anxious person it really helps me stay calm before shows.

Nikk: I walk non stop with anxiety and hum Star Wars music to myself as I stretch and warm up

Mike: Vocal warmups are key for me!! I usually go into my car 30 minutes before a set to get a quick warm up in so I’m ready to go!

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Justin: I’m stuck between opening for Bayside after winning their Battle Of The Bands and becoming Death Peddlers for Liquid Death!!

James: Easy. Opening up for Bayside. I think about that moment every day.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

Tony: Rufio because they’re such a huge part of my foundation as a musician. And any of the early 80s two tone ska bands from England.

Justin: Fall Out Boy circa 2005-2006. I saw them play at my Grad Night at Disney World and they were such a blast watching them play songs from Take This To Your Grave!!

James: Blink 182 during the EOTS era. Huge blink fan and would’ve loved to share the stage during such an iconic era.

Nikk: Thrice Blink-182 and AFI has been a huge part of my life when growing in music. Pipe dream of mine. I share a stage any day or time of ever asked !

Mike: The Movielife or I Am The Avalanche! Ima. Huge Vinnie Caruana fan and would love to hit the road with them.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Tony: We just want people to know that we put all our hearts and souls into this. Having opportunities like this to be interviewed or just seeing the comments of people enjoying our songs make it worth while. We love what we do and I’m glad I have this fantastic group of friends that I can share and create with.

Justin: That we absolutely love doing this and we truly love watching everyone sing these songs back at us when we play live!!

James: Never give up on your passion no matter how out of reach it may seem.

Nikk: This is the way - Kill The Music

"Outatime! The Pop Punk Powerhouse"

Like a ticking time bomb, the Pop Punk Powerhouse that are Outatime are ready to flick the pin and explode to the masses when the world gets off its knees, with their fast, fun and energetic demeanour, giving audiences far and wide a very real experience.
These, regular guys with stars in their eyes, go through the same day to day struggles as everyone else, using their anxiety, depression, and inner demons to fuel their passion to succeed and overcome their struggles, constantly striving to make music and memories as only best friends would.
Although they have their eyes set on the prize, the boys are pretty leveled when it comes to the journey, going for the adventure, meeting new people, and exploring new places. Being able to have a home away from home, no matter where they are, this band of brothers is set for success.

Formed early 2015 by Mike Forbes and Justin Robertson over regular games of hockey, and a love of Pop Punk, this duo soon turned their dream into reality from their base camp in Orlando, Florida, taking on like-minded members with the very same vision. Now, collectively reading off the same page, Outatime would usually be found tearing up stages in their local area such as Soundbar, Will’s Pub and Henao, all pre pandemic. The early years in any bands career are the precious ones, with contacts made, experiences had, and the good friends you meet along the way. Once such experience chalked up, and biggest gig to date, was at the House Of Blues in Orlando, treading the same boards as idols New Found Glory, Set Your Goals, and Bayside, something that has fueled the fire and set them in good stead for the future.

Since that time, they have gone on to share stages with Bayside, Neck Deep, Meet Me @ The Altar, We Were Sharks and Calling All Captains, filling out their portfolio nicely, with a line-up that consists of Mike Forbes -Vocals, Nikk Serrano - Bass/Vocals,

Justin Robertson - Lead Guitar, James Marlowe - Rhythm Guitar and Tony Alicea on Drums.

Mike has enjoyed singing for as long as he can remember, singing Billy Joel numbers in the car with father, later buying a guitar to accompany his passion to sing. But it was after seeing New Found Glory for the first time that turned his head, drawing further inspiration from Taylor Swift, Blink-182, The Movielife and Senses Fail.

Nikk, first got into music at middle school, taking up the trumpet around 2000.
With inspiration from Blink-182, Thrice, The Dear Hunter, Bayside, Tsunami Bomb, Rufio, and A Fire Inside, Nikk found his instrument of choice, taking up the Bass to further his passion to perform.

Justin, first picked up his axe in 2004 after getting into the local Miami Hardcore Scene. His inspiration stems from anything that was on Drive Thru Records 2000-2007, The Wonder Years, Fall Out Boy and Paramore, and now leans on those mentors to create a style of his own within this band.

Influenced by Transit, Set Your Goals, The Wonder Years, New Found Glory and Hit The Lights, James started on his journey into music aged 13, slowly cutting his teeth in guitar with his idols by his side.

At 11, Trumpet was Tony’s instrument of choice, but a year later found his passion for drums, leaning on influences from Saosin, Blink-182, Rufio, MXPX, and Underoath, and now proudly pounds the skins from the riser.

As a band, New Found Glory and Pop Punk forms the nucleus deep within the band, giving them the edge needed to rev the engines and fire on all cylinders.

In a recent interview I asked Outatime what drives them as a band, and what the meaning was behind the name, they told me;

“Experience. We’ve all been playing in our local scene since we were young and have gone through all the up and downs a band can go through in our respective music careers. By this point, we know what we want and how to achieve it. Our friendships really keep us going. Our collective love of playing this style of music, and just being able to put a fresh spin on something we have loved all of our lives, staying true to ourselves and our love for music.

The band name is simply a homage to one of the greatest film franchises of all time, Star Wars”.

I followed this up by asking the boys what they have learnt about themselves on their journey so far in the music industry, they went on to tell me;

“That family and friendship comes first, and that mentality, hard work and patience goes a very long way and all feel very fortunate to be a part of this band. We’ve learnt about one another’s personality and how we work together, and to be crystal clear whenever communicating. And to always triple check if there is an elevator and parking for the van as YOU WILL be carrying everything yourself".

So I went on to ask about their songwriting process and how they would overcome any creative blocks, they went on to add;

“Most of the time it’s just sending voice memos and demos back and forth. From there, Nikk typically demos it out and we listen back to it. It’s crazy to think that a lot of our music was written miles apart from each other. We stack the blocks together to make a creative bridge and bounce ideas off of each other. One thing that sets us apart from other bands is our strong writing chemistry. If I am having issues writing a riff, I will send Justin a recording of it for his opinion and take it from there. It is a tremendous help when I have a writer's block".

When asked if they have the same persona on and off stage, their answers were amazingly varied, where Mike told me;

“Yeah I would say so, although I can be pretty shy at times. Just come talk to me about hockey and I’ll open up”.

Nikk went on to add;

“Oh for sure, I'm also a shy person until someone mentions Star Wars, good luck getting me to shut up”.

Justin followed on by saying;

“I am the complete opposite of everyone. I am the extrovert of the band”.

Tony, added;

“Yes, although I’m not as loud off stage”.

As for James, the answer was simply a resounding Always”.

It’s clear to see the lads get on incredibly well here, and although focused on success, have a lot of fun along the way which is very important. SoI went on to ask if there was anything they wished they had known before starting their career in music, they told me;

“I think part of the fun is figuring things out as you go. Many people put up a wall and are scared to show their feelings. You should not be scared to show emotion to your band mates. They are the ones that see you when you are most vulnerable and are there for you in your highs and lows”.

I went on to ask what sets their music apart from other bands, they told me;

“We believe our music isn’t what sets us apart, it’s how we go about it and how we are as people. We try to stay true to our roots and what we believe pop punk should be. We would definitely have to say we have the nostalgia factor that is missing from today’s pop punk bands. Pop Punk bands these days tend to go towards a pop approach, where we are taking more of the punk approach.

We take the early 2000s Pop Punk sound and give it a twist”.

I finished by asking what they like most about being in this band, they replied;

“Watching a fan sing our lyrics in the crowd. It is a feeling that is so incredibly invigorating. It provides the opportunity to cultivate our talents, build friendships and create lasting memories”.

And that brings me nicely to the single in question here, “Husky Fight”.

Hidden away and recently brought to the fore, this single is the work of bassist Nikk Serrano and speaks of constant struggle with anxiety and depression that only too often leads to thoughts of suicide. Sadly this is something many of us can relate to, and this single comes with a message to anyone who may be going through this, and to never be alone in their hour of need, as there is always light at the end of what can be a very dark tunnel.
The single, complete with a hard hitting video, is designed to open eyes and raise awareness to this widespread issue, with domestic violence and sexual abuse commonplace in the lives of many.
Mike went on to say;

“No one deserves to be put through a situation where they are being taken advantage of or abused by a loved one or friend.

There is support for victims and their voices must always be heard and acknowledged”.

Full marks to the band for addressing this, and although showing top class musicianship all round, what’s important here is the message, something the band has achieved not only through their music, but in visuals also.

Star Rating - 10/10

To close, I asked the band if there was anything else they wanted our readers to know, they finished by telling me;

“Never give up even if your passion is something that helps keep you healthy, it's important to never stray away from that as life can teach you a lot of new things. We love talking to our fans after shows and talking about Star Wars, Video Games, and Music.

It's great meeting fans who share similar interests with us, come and say hi to us after a show, we’re just normal people that have a common interest. Anyone can do what we do. I’m sure all of us have had moments where we wanted to quit, but it’s an important part of life to push yourself and push others around you, that’s how you can achieve success in everything you do. And that’s how we plan on making it”.

So why not clear a space in your collection and give Outatime a try for 2021. - Stargazer Music Magazine

"Outatime! Are Bringing Back A Familiar Pop-Punk Sound With "Husky Fight!""

Florida-native pop punk band Outatime! are bringing back the golden age of pop-punk meets easycore with their new single “Husky Fight!”. It’s easy to pick up their influences in New Found Glory and Saves The Day with the classic riffs and catchy hooks throughout, but lying under the surface is a story of struggle that is equally as familiar to the genre.

"Husky Fight! has been a song that our bassist Nikk has been holding onto for some times now,” says vocalist Mike Forbes. “The song is about the constant struggle with anxiety and depression that sometimes can lead to thoughts of suicide and abandonment. We have all been there at times and we wanted to release the song with a message that tells whoever is experiencing these hardships that they are never alone and even though it doesn't seem easy, it always gets better.
After undergoing some lineup changes, Outatime! released their Mindset EP just earlier this year. While the band immediately hit the road to support this release, the world had other plans. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic forced the band to cancel the tour, but instead of letting the disappointment consume them, they channeled their energy into new material. “Husky Fight!” is the first single to come since the release of Mindset, and is the first taste of their upcoming full-length No Boundaries - yes, these guys have been busy!

“Husky Fight!” is also accompanied by a powerful music video, which you can find below. Outatime! use the video to bring attention to a prevailing issue within the scene, domestic violence and sexual abuse. “With the music video, we wanted to aim to towards a PSA on domestic violence and sexual abuse that has plagued our lives by the deaths of close friends, but also the rampant abuse that has been going on in the music scene for years now.” Forbes continues, “No one deserves to be put through a situation where they are being taken advantage of or abused by a loved one or friend. There is support for victims and their voices must always be heard and acknowledged!”

Aside from being poised to explode within the pop-punk genre, Outatime are huge fans of Star Wars and hockey. If you happen to catch them at a show in the future, don’t be afraid to mention it to them, because I’m sure they’ll be more than willing to discuss for hours! Be sure to check out the official music video for “Husky Fight!” below and keep an eye out for more singles to come leading up to the release of No Boundaries. - Scene Daddy

"Single Review: “Husky Fight” by Outatime!"

I feel as though pop punk as a genre has been evolving with its sound, taking more and more steps toward progressive tones and song structures and kind of veering away from its punk rock roots. This is definitely the case for the Orlando, Florida group known as Outatime. On October 2nd, they put out a new single called “Husky Fight,” which, lyrically and visually, touches on the problem of domestic and mental abuse. It’s a classic pop punk song that’s super upbeat and driving, with higher pitched vocals and a straightforward approach in songwriting.

Throughout the song, the guitar tones are fairly distorted, with lead parts fluctuating between a sharp clean and reverb laden. The riffs are pretty straightforward pop punk with a lot of fast paced two step power chords strummed in mostly an up-stroke pattern. The drums and bass are also at a fast pace; perfectly in sync with each other and boasting some complex lines to fill in any bare spots from guitars and vocals. The riffs and tones are quite interesting and snappy enough to keep your head bobbing throughout, without any lulls in intensity or musicality.

The vocals are really a stand out on this. Sometimes you run into the issue of the vocals for a pop punk song not being intense enough for the riffs, but this wasn’t an issue in “Husky Fight.” They are high pitched, but not too far where it would get slightly irritating halfway through. They have a great timbre to them with a lot of power and not too much whispiness. Again, a very entertaining performance with a lot of catchy melodies and lines that truly make a pop punk song great.

“Husky Fight” is a solid song that’s pop forward and driving. It has enough “punk” thrown in that gives it an alternative edge as well. Make sure to follow them on all of their social media/streaming sites, and give the song, and music video, a listen below. - Every Little Muse

"SINGLE REVIEW - Outatime! - "Husky Fight""

“According to the US Department of Justice, an average of 24 people per minute are victims of rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner, the number totaling more than 12 million people every year” - these were the closing messages of Outatime!’s brand new single, “Husky Fight!”, bringing to light a perilous issue that’s affected people all across the globe.

Outatime! is a 5-piece Florida pop-punk group composed of vocalist Michael Forbes, guitarists Justin Robertson and James Marlowe, drummer Ryan Pyle, and bassist Nikk Serrano. They sport a classic pop-punk sound, embodying the hallmarks of the genre that many have fallen in love with - fast tempos, soaring vocals, and catchy melodies. Many of their stylistic approaches are reminiscent of classic acts such as Blink-182 and Alkaline Trio, while still giving a nod to the modern approach to pop-punk.

The video carries a much more serious undertones juxtapositioned to the song, bringing a found-footage vibe to the cinematography. The story follows a young woman who was previously reported missing running from a various number of aggressors, whether it be a masked figure or a stranger with a shotgun. The band articulated their message very well, pointing out that so many people around the world are victim to domestic violence, sexual assault, and predatory actions. The aggressors in the video seemingly represented the different elements of abuse that many have had to endure in reality.

Outatime! Did a wonderful job discussing a serious issue in a healthy manner - domestic violence and sexual assault are unfortuantely commonplace for many people in our nation and across the world, and the only way to move forward is to address and recognize the warning signs. The band had an interesting foil between the song and the contents of the video which only added to the gravity of the message. Husky Fight! is an enjoyable tune on the surface with a powerful message hidden underneath.

If you or someone you know is enduring domestic abuse or sexual violence, time is of the essence and you can help. Please call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233. If you’re currently enduring domestic violence or abuse, you are not alone. There is hope and it will get better for you. Bio

Outatime! is an Orlando-based, pop punk collective consisting of Michael Forbes (vocals), Tony Murphy (bass/vocals), Tony Alicea (drums), Tony Medina (guitar), and Justin Robinson (guitar). The band boasts a distinct skate punk inclination, drawing on thrashing instrumentals and catchy, relatable lyrics to create a signature sound that’s earned them apt comparisons to New Found Glory and Saves The Day.

Formed in 2015, Outatime! first emerged in the alternative music scene with their debut track, “Can You Not?” the following year. The group has since gained notable traction within the community, going on to perform alongside the likes of Bayside, Neck Deep, Belmont, Calling All Captains, We Were Sharks and Meet Me @ The Altar. They’ve also been featured on the ‘Bar Down Breakdown’ (ep. 69) and the 2020 lineup for Hope Fest. Backed by a growing collection of singles, the band dropped their first EP, ‘Mindset,’ in February of 2020. The compilation featured three previously-released songs, including fan-favorite, “Autumn Eyes,” as well as four new, high-energy tracks.

They rounded out the second half of the year with a new single, “Husky Fight,” as well as a cover of Machine Gun Kelly’s hit, “Forget Me Too.” The band is currently promoting their first full-length record, ‘No Boundaries,’ which released in 2022. The album dives full force into emotional thematics, spurred in part by the events of 2020 and addressing the concepts of anxiety, familial challenges, and seemingly everything in between.

Outatime! expresses profound appreciation for the friends, family, and fans who have supported them through their continued ventures. Special thanks go out to Bar Down Breakdown, Coast2Coast Hockey, and Convicted Printing; as well as Liquid Death, the eco-friendly, canned water distributor for which they serve as ambassadors (use code “OUTATIME” for discounts).
