Want a taste of what’s to come? The Mark Weber Music Blog is proud to debut Ophelia’s new video: - Mark Weber
Roger Lanfranchi is a guitar player living in Florida, but quite influenced by Indian classical music, having studied it for the better part of a decade. It’s Lanfranchi’s Indian influence that sets his “eclectic folk” music apart from most other American guitar players. Combining finger-style, nylon string guitar with lyrics about spirituality and transcendence, this is thinking person’s music. Some have labelled Lanfranchi’s style as “orchestral folk” or “psychedelic folk.” Indeed, it’s a bit trippy, with its spaced out, vibey use of instrumentation, including cellos.
When you listen to music on Lanfranchi’s bandcamp page, you’ll hear his eighth album under the name “Ophelia.” Part of the album includes his friend Kersey’s music, which he produces and provides vibrant guitar sounds for, supporting her mellow vocals.
Fans of Joanna Newsom, Animal Collective, and Grizzly Bear should appreciate Lanfranchi’s gift for making artistic music. In November, he’ll release a new full-length project titled “A Chrysalis Pt. 2.” Keep tabs on him. –Mark Weber - Mark Weber

Bio
With the help of his beloved 1969 Gibson classical guitar, Roger Lanfranchi has been making music under the name "Ophelia" since 2003.
Although his songs maintain a minimal and intimate feel, Ophelia approaches his sound with an eclectic and open mind, including instruments as diverse as cello, dulcimer, piano and sitar to add color. Roger's long love affair with Indian Classical Music brings a distinct flavor and a very peculiar depth to his indie folk songs.
The Tarpon Springs (Florida) songwriter set out to create an organic, understated and candle-lit sound with a very personal and introspective mindset; not unlike Devendra Banhart, The Tallest Man on Earth, Joanna Newsom or Robbie Basho.
There is often a very deep, unexplainable connection between an instrument and a performer, a special connection, a feeling that words just cannot describe properly. This is Rogers case: he calls his vintage Gibson guitar an extension of himself his relationship with the instrument is such that its helped cultivate his delicate finger style technique, and the exquisite sound Roger is known for today.
Since 2003, Roger has put out 8 releases with a new 15-track full-length titled "A Chrysalis" Pt.2, to be out in 01/11/14.
His latest EP, "A Chrysalis", featuring 6 of his songs. The songs were recorded in Roger's home studio, with minimal arrangements focused around hypnotic and soothing acoustic guitar patterns, minimal percussive elements and lush vocals, drenched in reverb and lo-fi degradation.
When Ophelia performs live, the songs assume an even more minimal feel, with Roger often solely performing them on his guitar and ethereal vocals. Sometimes his live performances also showcase the accompaniment of cello and other melodic instrumentation.
