"(BREAKING TRENDZ) DARIAN"

Named one of the hottest female emcees out of Houston, Darian has set a new standard for not only females in the rap game, but she has also shown the guys a new way of doing things. Born and raised in Missouri City, TX, this multi-talented and multi-genre artist plans to leave her mark with the release of her EP entitled Dear Diary. From hardcore rap, to baby making music, to sultry spoken word, it’s without a doubt anybody can find their favorite jam. Besides making dope music, Darian is a curator of fashion with her clothing line, Nairad. She has definitely created and dominated her own lane and we are on the lookout for what’s to come next.

Houston TREND: Explain your style or genre of music? Who are influenced by?

Darian: Being that my music is so versatile, that’s always a tough question. My style of music is a mix of several different elements as well as genres. It’s Hip-Hop, blended with R&B, infused with Pop, with a dash of Neo Soul and Electronica. Oftentimes I like to describe it as the modern day 90’s Hip-Hop and R&B, you know, that “feel good” “timeless” music. I’m influenced by amazing past and present artists such as: Aaliyah, Lauryn Hill, Tupac, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Beyonce, Kanye West, and Jhene Aiko.

How does if feel to be a female in a male dominated industry?

Being a female in a male-dominated industry is bittersweet. It’s bitter because oftentimes females don’t get taken seriously. We’re almost always overlooked as well as looked down upon. Being a female in this industry, you’re the underdog. You’re expected to sleep with the CEOs, the label execs, the DJs, the producers, pretty much anyone who has an upper-hand. That’s something I will NEVER conform to – sexualism in the industry and its misogynistic ideologies. On the other hand, lets visit the positive. I actually LOVE the fact that I am a female artist trying to break through the industry’s barriers simply because there’s less competition. Think about it, there are several amazing male rappers out right now who are all killing the game, but I bet you can only count on one hand the amount of female rappers that fit in that category. It’s much easier for me to lyrically annihilate the 2 or 3 females that are on top right now, then come for the male artists’ necks next….and DOMINATE! Ironic right? That’s my goal!

Tell us about your latest project?

I recently released my debut EP entitled Dear Diary, and literally, the title says it all. It features the story of a woman’s introspection told through her diary entries. I decided to take pages from my mental and emotional diary and turn it into something that people can enjoy and relate to. It tells a story from the beginning to the end, featuring a blend of lyrics and spoken word that revolve around relationships, life lessons, and philosophies. You can purchase your copy at www.deardiarytheep.com, or you can search Dear Diary on iTunes or Google Play.

What can we expect from you at a live performance?

Performances are my favorite. It’s crazy because I’m naturally shy and humble, but on stage the inner beast in me unleashes. Most people say that it reminds them of the way Michael Jackson used to be. In my opinion, there’s nothing better than being able to captivate my audience and lure them into my world on stage. I love being able to artistically hypnotize the crowd and demand their attention both lyrically and visually. I have a signature act that I’m known for around town, where I’ll make a beat on stage and perform to it. The crowd loves it.

How are you Breaking Trendz?

Mannnnn, I love this question! Hahaaa! First and foremost, I’m breaking the trend of this “ignorant” music era! All of these rap gimmicks coming out ALL sound the exact same, seriously. Break that! Secondly, I consider myself breaking trends as a female artist by being so multitalented. How many female artists or artists alone can say that they rap, sing, song write, produce, engineer, direct, and edit their own music videos, as well as design their own clothing? I also do spoken word. There are no other female artists of this generation to implement spoken word into their music. I just want to bring something new, refreshing, and genuine to the table.

What all do you wish to accomplish during your music career?

I want to be a legend! I want to be known as the most talented female artist of our time. Fifty years from now, I still want to be the topic of discussion, as the kids of future generations brag to their robot friends about how legendary Darian is. I want to win a Grammy, a Billboard Award, a Telly, an Oscar, so on and so forth. I want to show people that I’m not just a rapper, and this is not just a hobby nor just a dream, it’s much more than that for me.

What do you want people to take away from you and your music?

My motto is “kill conformity.” I want people to do just that. Kill off the stereotypes and do away with the margins. Don’t be forced into the “norm.” Don’t be afraid to continuously think outside of the box. Be free. Feel love, show love, express peace, spread positivity, and do away with bad vibes. Don’t be afraid to be yourself. That’s what shapes me and my music. - Houston Trend Magazine

She’s “Houston’s Top Pick” in Jack Daniels and Atlantic Records’ JacknForBeats competition judged by DJ Drama, DJ Scream, DJ Envy and former A&R AJ Ahmed. She beat out over 100 artists city-wide and ranked in the top 10 nationwide.

Darian has been one of Houston’s best-kept secrets, until now! She is coming to the forefront of hip-hop music with her unbeatable stage presence and her conscious lyrics. Her highly anticipated EP “Dear Diary” was released on Tuesday, September 30th, 2014. The EP features her new single, “Slow It Down”, a R&B jam with a little Houston flavor.

Darian is a refreshing addition to the music industry; she battles the industry’s norm by rapping conscious lyrics about love, life, society and the music industry itself. Her hit single “Ratchet” may sound like a typical club song, but true music connoisseurs will tell you otherwise.

She gained her popularity a few years back with her hit single “I Got Swag”, which captured the attention of school age kids all across the country. Now she’s back with a little more swag, a lot of demeanor, and bizarre beats and lyrics.

Born and raised in Missouri City, TX, but unlike other famous rappers from the area, Darian’s style of music is a mixing bowl of almost every genre. She gives you Hip-Hop blended with a little R&B, fused with a smidge of Pop, and meshed with a dash of Electronica. - 97.9 The Boxx

"Official Darian"

"Music is the art of the soul. It is a story, a memory, a moment, pain, happiness. It is an escape. A sense of freedom. Music can take you into an entirely different world, a totally different element. As an artist, you want to bring people into your world. Bring the listeners into your sanctuary. Connect with your audience. Create such a vivid illusion which allows them to feel certain emotions. Thats one of my theories". Darian says.

Raised outside of Houston, TX in the close-knit city of Missouri City, Darian -- like so many of the greats before her -- cultivated her voice in church at the age of 3, as she touched the entire congregation by singing, Look at Me, Im a Testimony. Darian's parents have taught her that Faith is the key and believing opens the door. All things are possible if you have faith in God. At age 5, Darian was introduced to rap, and she soon fell in love with the skill.

Since Darian's music gained popularity on the web in 2009, shes been mentioned in several music blogs worldwide, Study Breaks magazine, and gained dedicated listeners in several countries, which lead to features on multiple television broadcasts, including a Safe Auto commercial, in which her music was highlighted (CW39).

Darian has been mentored by Mathew Knowles, who is a businessman, record producer, father and former manager Beyonce.

When asked who influenced her the most, she lights up as she quickly fires off an impressive list: Kendrick Lamar, Lauryn Hill, Beyonce, and Drake, along with the late Michael Jackson, Aaliyah, Tupac, and Left Eye.

The 21-year-old has already successfully accomplished task that most young adults could not handle, as her career description includes: rapper, singer, songwriter, actor, director, videographer, editor, and fashionista. Darian is currently the CEO of Genius Minds Entertainment, and the chief editor for a talk show that airs every week on Ion, and also on the new NOW network. She has also completed numerous projects, working alongside Tyrone Dixon, who has worked on films such as Roll Bounce, Hustle and Flow, Tupac Resurrection and more.

She recently starred in a short film musical hit "Something Different," written by Nailah Johnson. She was cast as the lead role in which she played Lyric, a talented musical artist that had to leave Julliard because her father gets laid off. She then transfers to a new University where she is cast out for being something different.

"A huge goal of mine is to somehow alter society. And I do mean that in many ways, but specifically speaking, I want to change the way society views female rappers, from the content of their music to their overall abilities. I want the world to know that I can do it all, and I can do it just as good, if not better, than the guys." - MTV

Raised outside of Houston, TX in the close-knit city of Missouri City, Darian -- like so many of the greats before her -- cultivated her voice in church at the age of 3, as she touched the entire congregation by singing, Look at Me, I'm a Testimony. Darian's parents have taught her that Faith is the key and believing opens the door. All things are possible if you have faith in God. At age 5, Darian was introduced to rap, and she soon fell in love with the skill. At age 7, Darian started performing on stages across Houston doing remixes to popular Lil Bow Wow and Lil Romeo songs. Soon she learned to write her own music, and also developed a skill for producing. By the age of 13, Darian was truly one of a kind, she was writing her own music, producing her own beats in FL studio, engineering all of her songs in ProTools, and creating all of her artwork in Photoshop.

Since Darian's music gained popularity on the web in 2009, she's been mentioned in several music blogs worldwide, Study Breaks magazine, and gained dedicated listeners in several countries, which lead to features on multiple television broadcasts, including a Safe Auto commercial, in which her music was highlighted (CW39).

Her work includes the current hit single "Slow It Down" and her new hip-hop smash hit single "Lit". Darian also released her debut EP entitled 'Dear Diary', which gained a lot of popularity, as well as respect from music industry executives.

When asked who influenced her the most, she lights up as she quickly fires off an impressive list: J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Lauryn Hill, and Drake, along with the late Michael Jackson, Aaliyah, Tupac, and Left Eye. She emphasizes that a lot of 90's Hip-Hop and R&B music greatly influenced her sound. She also states that she was raised listening to a lot of "old school" music and oftentimes loves to sit back and vibe to Frankie Beverly and Maze.

"A huge goal of mine is to somehow alter society. And I do mean that in many ways, but specifically speaking, I want to change the way society views female rappers, from the content of their music to their overall abilities.
