Bio
Raised in the beautiful beach-town of Cape May, New Jersey, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Nismah Osman currently studies Voice and Songwriting at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. Through her love and passion for the craft coupled with her relentless senses of purpose and faith, it is clear that Nismah is meant to make waves with her music. As a Christian, she writes with the realization that music and love have the power to reach places in the hearts of people that are hidden behind carefully constructed walls of pain and loss. This sense of purpose continues to drive Nismah and push her as she is challenged to see people with eyes of Christ.
Known for her unique, jazzy vocal timbre and stage presence, performing comes naturally and the vulnerability she expresses in her music is being shared with others. At age 12, Nismah had her first experience at a professional recording studio. As a young middle-school student, this was a major step in the right direction. After recording three singles in the following two years, a new, exciting door opened. In 2010, Nismah made some connections by way of a local singer/songwriter convention and ended up having two songs published internationally to film and television with FirstCom Music. Her most popular single, “Let You Know,” has aired on film, television and radio in more than 10 different countries and was featured on the INSP Network promotional commercial in the spring of 2011. Via “Let You Know,” Nismah has had the opportunity to work with publisher and producer Les Scott Hanson, esteemed songwriter and musician Ron Haney and producer Bart Schoudel.
Throughout high school, Nismah immersed herself in music, learning and experience. In the summer of 2011, she took part in a weeklong east coast tour with friend and musician Steven Paul. After graduating high school, Nismah attended Word of Life Bible Institute for one full year of bible and ministry training. During her time there, she led a 20-member tour group on two 10-day tours. Heeding the advice of many to pursue a post-secondary education in music and, with the support of her family, friends and teachers, Nismah set out to audition for Berklee College of Music.
She considers it a humbling and beautiful privilege to be part of such an incredible community of musicians and people. In the summer of 2014, Nismah received the ASCAP Irving Burgie Songwriting Scholarship, solidifying her calling to be an accomplished songwriter. She received this award a second time in Fall 2015.
Currently in her final year at Berklee, Nismah independently released her debut EP, “Land of the Living,” this Spring. She continues to co-write, record, play at conferences, and hone her craft as a songwriter and musician. Throughout the next year, Nismah plans to build her network by attending singer/songwriter conferences, booking shows, and entering songwriting competitions.
